persons of all denomiustions, physicians, clergymen,
,and others) that they seem tfi be almost universal in
4.keir effect; and persons using them for whatever sick
ness or disease, may rest assured thnt they will be found
more efficacious than any other pills in existence.

Furthermore --while we deplore the incautiousness
of those ministers residing.in non-slaveholding States,
and have embraced the dogmas of abolitionism; and
while we wish all things to be done in a manner suit
able to a ehristian commnniiy, we do solemnly declare
it to be our deliberate and honest belief that nothing
but a complete separation of the Southern Church
from those portions holding the views expressed above,
can secure her peace and prosperity,--The ee f ore
1. Resolved, That the action of the majority of the
late General Conference, in the case of Bishop Andrew ' ,
is unconstitutional, injurious, and cannot he tolerated.
2. That we considerßishop Ancl-evi's course, as an
officer of the March, wholly irreproachable, and in
entire accordance with our ecclesiastical order.
3. That he is moat earnestly and affectionsurly re
quested to comply with the wishes of the Southern
and South-Western delegations, viz: to attend their
respective Conferences and preside in them as here
tofore, as he and 13ishep.Scitile may arrange anddiride
the work.
4. That the delegations named f:

have adopted for a speedy and amicable separation
of the Northern and Southern portions of the Church.
6. That we entertain a high regard far the moral
worth and uncompromising integrity of these delegates
from non-slaveholding States, who voted with the
South, rather than violate the laws of the Church un

THE RECENT ROBBERY..
John Daily, who was arrested foil stealinrthe carpet
bag of Mr McKie, at Albany, containing $lO,OOO, it
appearsis an old and mostacute English rogue. Wil
lis iFI 'Blaney, ex high constable of this city, bas just ,
returned from a visit to Albany to see Daily, suspect
ing him to be an old offender he had long lost sight of:
He recognized him as George. B Harvey, a notorious
burglar for wham he has been en the look-out since
1839. It is said that Daily has made some important
disclosures. He was asrestedisyßlaney in '3l for the
robbery of the Piscataqua Bank, Pertsmouth, N H of
$24,000, and was convicted in Boston. Since that he
has been connected with the most celebrated burglars
in the country. He was concerned in the robbery of
the Oneida Bank nt Utica of $108;000, and one year
afterwards arrested in Canada and $60,000 of the mo
ney recovered, and he let loose. He was in this city
at the time of the robbery of Lescure's jewelry store ,
corner of Third and Market streets, and was always
suspected by Blaney. * Since then he committed a rob
bery in Cincinnati. of near $20,000 worth of watches,
and jewelry, the whole of which was found upon his
wife; he making his escape. He is believed to be the
person that robbed the Frederick County Bank. Md.,
and to be connected in some sexy with the celebrated
forgeries of March 1841, on Jacob Little of New
York, for $20.000, and on the Girard Beak for $21,-
000. By his own acknowledgments he has been con
nected with all the great robberies for the last nine
years.—Penosylvanion.

SIR.—On the 6th inst Lieut C Fremont, of the
United States Exploring Expedition, arrived here in
distress, having been forced to deviate from his coons
on account of deep snows, loss of animals, and want
of provisions; he informed me of 'having left the Co
lumbia river a short distance "from Fort Vancouver,
with the intention of crossing-to the head waters of
the Arkansas river Eastward, through the lower or
Southern part of the Oregon Territory, .but flailing a
succession of high mountains covered with snow, trhich
with the distressed condition of his company, forced
him to abandon . Ms route and mike fur the settlements
of California. refry and cross the mountains farther to
the South. On the morning of the 25th instant, be
left here direct for the United States; his party con*
sisted of twenty-five men. The visit of this exploring
expedition I attribute entirely to accident; for a month
previous to their arrival, thecornpany had Wedged mis
tirely as horse and mule flesh; the starvation and fa
tigue they had endured . rendered them truly deplorable
objects.

Culvert street, a few doors from Baltimore street, in
which Mr. Abraham Hyam some years back was
fleeced out $lll,OOO, has been broken up. A tho
rough examination of the premises was made on Sate
erdav, by 'the Sheri Wand High Constable of Baltimore,
end with the assistance of Mr. Green, the reformed
gambler, several items of the swindling machinery or
the gamesters fully explained. The most important
of ihese•eeatrivances was that of a hole through the
ceiling, immediately over the gaming table, ands Se-
cretslide in a reflector over a large swinging likam, '
which Could be removed by a string at pleasure, thrc4 l l l
which. and the hole in the ceiling, a person nhoire padd
look down and ascertain the cards in the hands of a
stranger elm might be playing with one of thei keno:
rable swindlets. The means through which he was- 4
'enabled to communicate his discoveries to Ms pa rt y-1
below. was by a string which, passing along the flow
to the wall and thence to the room below, hanging
down about three feet from the ceiling, with a tassel
on the end, as if the appendage to a bell extended to
some ether part of the house, A kind of telegraphic
alphabet having previously been agreed upon between
the gambler and his colleague, so many jerks of the .
tassel were given for each of the important cards its
his opponents hand, and hence the fleecing of , green-
born was made more rapid and certain. There are, 3
we learn, nine more of these establishments in full I
operation. in which similar apparatuses are doubtless 4
used, and if the strong hand of the law cannot pre- 1
vent men from gambling, it certainly ought taint
to prevent such disgraceful swindling. It is to be'
