THE Fla 1. D OF HUMANITY AND THE
AINIFEARINDER.
TRINND UT HUMANITY
'Needy Knife-grinder! whither are you going?
-Rough is the road, your wheel is out of order—
Bleak blows the lalast;—your bat has got a bole in%
So have your breeches!
Weary Knifirgrinder! liula think the proud ones,
Who in their coaches roll along the turnpike
-road, what hard work 'tis crying all day, "Knives and
Scissors to glind 01"
Tell me. Knife-grinder, how came you to grind knives
Did some rich man t l raanically use you?
&Vas it the 'squire? or the . parson of the parish;
Or tho attorney.
'as it the 'squire, Go killing of his game, or
Covetous parson, for his tithes distminingl
4;k roguish lawyer, made you lose your little
All in a lawsuit?
I (ilave you not read the "Rights of man," by Tom
Paine?)
Drops of compassion tremble on, my eye-lids,
iteady to frill, as soon ns you have told your
Pitiful story.
KNIFE-Gb.INDER.
Story! God bless you! I have none to tell, Sir,
Only lsst night a drinking at the Chequers,
This poor old hat and breeches, as you see, were
Torn in a scuffle.
Constables came up for to take me into
Cocoiiv, they took me before the justice;
Justin Oklmixon put me into the parish
Stocks for a vagrant
I should be glad to drink your honor's health in
A pot of beer, if you will give me a sixpence;
But for my part, I never love to meddle
With politics. Sir.
FRIEND OF HUMANITY.
r give thee sixpence! T will soe the damu'd first—
Wretch l whom no sense of wrongs can rouse to iron
geance—
Sordid, unfeeling, reprobate, degraded,
Spiritless outcast !

and exit in a transport of levelling e nthusiasm
and univcrsel philanthropy.)
The Supposed Piracy —Officers from Pensacola
arrived in Mobile on Thursday with the proper docu
ments in their possession relative to the case of Cor
nell. the drowned or murdered marine. who took pas-'
sage on the Isabella. From them the editors of the
Herald learn that the throat of the deceased was not
cut—but that divers other cuts about the head and
body wore discovered—one in particular, just on the
forehead, which, in the opinion of various persons
was made with an axe. We trust that inquiries may
bepursued in every quarter to clear up this mysterious
affair.—Picagune, June 2d.
The Great Ratification Meeting at Coneord, N. to,
we are informed by Hill's Patriot, was attended by at
hum three thousand people. The assemblage was ad
dressed from a stand in the area of the state house by
several gentlemen; among other s the Hon. George Ban
craft, the eminent historian and distinguished politi
cian who spoke with the greatest force and eloquence
of ditificoltar upwaeds of an hour. The nominations
are received in New Hampshire with the utmost har
mony and enthusiasm, a precursor to a glorious victo
ry to the democracy.

THE PAINTER'S SOLILOQUY
.1y Bruih I think I will extend
To every one in trade,
They'll look upon me as their friend,
Because I offer aid.
Beside!' I'll give them something new,
And that l'm sure is fair;
Tell them to paint a handsome blue
If they want to sell their ware.
Then let the Printer have the news,
He'll spread it far anon,
Hear whnt he says respecting Shoes
Cain's just been getting on.
He has every size and color too,
The Price I soon will tell:
I'm sure it would astonish you,
To see how fast they sell.
For thirty-seven cents they go,
And by the thousand too;
They always sell so very low,
At the store that's painted blue
Cain's fancy shoes ere very neat—
Ho make's them to the measure,
And when his work is on your feet
You'll realize much pleasure.
The Store's on Fifth and Market corner,

La! what makes four teeth so unusually whith?
Quoth Josh's dulcinia tohim t'otlier night,
To make yourn look so, with a grin, replied Josh,
I'+e bought you a bottle of Thorn's Tooth Wash,
'Tithe best now in use, so the gentlefolks say,
And since they have tried this, cast all others away.
But to prove it the best to make the teeth shine,
Look again, my dear Sal, at tke lustre of mine.
Then try this great tooth wash,
The Teaberry tooth wash,
And see if this tooth wash of Thorn's is not fine.
Having tried Dr. "Thorn's Tea Berry Tooth Wash,"
and become acquaintedwith the ingredients of its com
position, [ cheerfully say, I consider it one of the safest,
as it id one of the most pleasant tooth washes now in
use. DAVID HUNT, Dentist.
Pittsburgh, Sept. 15, 1842.
I take pleasure in stating, having made use of
"Thorn's Tea Berry Tooth Wash," that it is one of the
best dentrifices in use. Being in aliquidform it com

the enamel and removes the tartar from the teeth, its
perfume yields a fragrance peculiarly desirable.
J. P. TIBBETTS, Iv.. D.
