Tax Lona or THE Maxon, or Rose Carleton's
Temptation, an old English story, by Hamar W Lisa-
Gh^eal Freshet end Lou of Property.—On Thurs
day night last, owing to the great rains during the day,
the wow at Chagrin Falls rose to such an extent.. to
wash away amoral dams and do much injury to the
many flourishing mills and factories which are there
located. Mr White, whose fact, pry was situated high
est up the stream, was the largest sufferer, his loss be
ing some $2:000. Mr White is a large manufacturer
of axes, and bad jam completed a Dew factory, which
wee to be put in operation in a few days. The em
bankment of Mr White was twenty feet in height, and
retained a set of some twenty acre, in extent. When
this gave way, the rush of water overflowed the land
on each side of the strewn for some distance. Bliss
& Maybew's flouring mill, the paper milldam, the
bridge crossing the stream at the centre of the village,
H. C. Gardner's flouring mill, Earl's woolen factory,
Bliss and Poole's woolen factory, and Bullard & Nor
throp's wheel factory, were all more or less injured.
The latter had some portion of the machinery carried
away.—Chirelamd Herald, May 23.
