th,CM l 4 l #4 ll Orning VO-gt. WEDNESDAY MORNING, MAY 20, 184.1 TOONA/1 CyNittt., United States Deputy Marslaltifar the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, arrived in oar ty yesterday 'morning, having in custody Gtoaos V.P. litstriasou, who, it will be recollected, was indicted by the Grand Jury last October for counterfeiting the , cntrent coin of the United States, and who fled from our •city; since when nothing has been beard of him, until hisawrival in custody of tbe Deputy Marshal, who sue .ceeded in arresting him in Philadelphia on Wednes day evening, the 22d. It is thought that a large a mount a the spurious coin is in circulation throughout the state. Henderson is now in prison, to await his trial at the nextterm of die U. S. Court. iIOUSUSS STRUCK ST LIORTRING.—We had quite a heavy rain about noon yesterday, accompanied by thunder and lightning. The thunder very badly scared several children and a number of elderly ladies, and the lightning struck three houses on Wood street. It first atruck the llat store of Mr. S. Moore, but clane no damage. It then passed over to Mr. Willord Leon. ard's Clothing store, broke one of the rafters of the house, and tore off some of the bricks and shingles. It also struck and broke the large window of the Look ing Glass and Print store of Mr. Butch, and passed down the gas pipe though the building. This was, fortunately, all the damage sustained. THIATHIC.—To night those general favorites Mr & Mra AiLiao, take their benefit; and present such a bill as must call out all our playgoers. Tobin's excellent Comedy of the "Honey Moon," (which the ladies by all means should witness, as it has s moral which 'they might profit by, ), the "Married Rake." and some superb dancing by BCCXLST. Mr. W. CHAPMAN, a .comedian of great celebrity, also makes his first a ppear :ance. Add to this, the strong claims that Mr & Mrs Ayling have rpon the patrons of the Drama, and there as an inducement to attend that but rarely presents it -self. 1 1 9 4 take the responsibility of saying th one i .sceee between Mrs Ayling & Chapman will be at worth :the price of admission. •t.srarr DRAGOONS.—This new corps made their first parade yesterday, and rather eclipsed the 87th. Each member seems to have tasked his ingenuity to see how grotesque and ridiculous be could appear. This masquerading, however, is dangerous sport, and subjects those who indulge in it to the clutches of the law. THANICS.-A very tine boat is the Little Ben, and a very obliging gentleman is her clerk, Mr S. G. He has again brought us a bundle of Cincinnati a rs. Olt TEIVIEB.—We understand that this most astonishing specimen of the Lilliputian race will re main at the American Hotel for one day longer, and all our citizens who wish to see the greatest curiosity of mam•kind should pay him a visit. The biography of this little great man, or raffle,: great little man,is amusing curious and pathetic. One account says that he was nursed in the lap of luxury and ease, the young prodigy devoted his youth to liter atureand all the usual emballiehments of a fashionable young man, fondly anticipating a continuance of the, prosperity in which his effeminate, humming bird limbs were cradled. Gifted naturally with excellent parts, both mental and physical, he resolved to "cut such fan tastic tricks" that if he did not "make the angels weep, he would at least produce "considerable sensa tion" amongst the "yankee girls," acting upon that cenvenismt rmato, that "must valuable gonds are always done up in the stnallest parcels." But who, alas! that has gazed upon that pallid cheek and melancholy fare, has not noticed the effects of reverse of fortune. Nor is this all; bat'there, where he had garnered up his rifler_ thins, proved inconstant, and left him the 'wreck' you see him. Accordingly he resolved to quit the place of hisbirth, and dissipate his sad reflections. and cure the deep : wounds his little young heart had received, by travelling his native country, in which he has since beenemployed, if not to the resuscitation of his health to the wonder of all who have seen him. ...ow to keep Butter Sweet for Years.—Arnong the mass of information furnished by the report of the com missioner of patents, which is highly interesting to farniers, is an account of a process, hitherto a secret, by which butter may be kept for years, fresh and sweet, in any climate. Moat kinds of wood contain consider able quantities of pyroligeneous acid, which decom poses salt in batter kept in such tubs. The linden, or bass wood, is.the only one which, it appears by careful experiment, is free from it; others, it is stated, may be freed froterjr., and thus rendered suitable, by boiling three or foriebours, well pressed under water. Good butter is twbe-well churned, and worked and packed hard ar.d %Ow lha kegs of seasoned white oak; the head is then put 1* leaving a small hole, into which brine is poured to ill the vacant space; and of so much im portance is it deemed, to prevent any had taste, that the plugs *the hole must not be made of cedar or pine, but of rtylptess- or bus wood, as otherwise it wouldbe n' in After which, these kegs are placed , d aitet in a h ' , well plied with brine of full solution that :bear an egg, which-is then headed up tight and eltiOtty:.. Thho is the mode pursued in Orange en.. N. Y. and the - butter will keep at sea and in worm climates, and commands a very high price The ap pendix: .. to the report contains a letter addressed to Mr. Ellsworth, by G. Fox, Eaq., a merchant of Hart ford, Conc., which corroborates the above.—Ball. San.
