Thursday last, states that•On lhe previous evening a
terrible storm bt wind, bail mad rain, passed ovv,the
city from the southwest, which did considerable &tri
age. The lightning flashed vividly, and the roar of
the thUnder, mingled in the mighty warfare. Trees
were uprooted, shutters blown off, and several wagons
ware overturned by the violence of the wind. More
than one heifer the roof of the Wharton street Media

through the ceiling into the church, and the other into
the tartlet. A small boy named Nugent, was struck
by a piece of the roof, and one of his legs was broken
in two places.
The same paper of Friday, gives the following par
ticulars.
"The atormof wind, rain and hail, which passed
over the tower metier' of Southwark, on Wednesday
afternoon, was much more disastrous in its effects, than
any stormthat has-visited that section for many years.
There is ti singularity about the storm, which is wor
thy of a passidgeoties. The tornado seemed to have
started at
,a gives point, a short distance South-west
of the city, tinddiverging to such an extent, that at any
section, ifit were possible to have drawn a base line,
itercedd,,prestent nearly an equiederal triangle On
the extreme edges of the whirlwind, the effects were
disesteem, bat fortunately meat of its fury was spent
before reaching any considerable number of buildings.
The northern edge took in a range, the Foundry of
• Messrs. Tasker auxl. , Mortis. prostrated several of its
chimneys, and the Wharton Street Methodist Church,
a fine looking building, elevated during the Summer
of 1842. This building was damaged to the amount
of between four and five thousand dulharie It appears
that the D window in the gable end was epee at the
time, and the %vied passing through the aperture rais
ed the roof on both pitches, and broke about three
fourths of it of and carried one piece about fifty feet
to the north-west, and the remainder at a distance of
several hundred feet berth -east, when it passed mo

piece of roof that fell upon the little boy, mentioned
