CLAT "Burrau."—Theyouag man's Clay Club of
this city has received a plaster bust of the whig candi-
date, from their brother coons of Philadelphia. It does
not bear the slightest resemblance to the original, and
we do not think it was ever intended for a likeness...—
But that is not of any importance; the young coons
call it a "bust of Clay," and if they are satisfied, it's
nobody else's business.

DZCALPITAT/OS VICK CONSUL.—Ina letterfe
calved by a gentleman of Philadelphia, dated February
20th, 1844, from the United States Consul,at Tangier,
Morino; it is awed, that the EMperor of Morocco. a
few days previous to the date given above, "had taken
it into his head to decapitate a vice consul, or consular
agent, then holding a commission from the Spanish
Consul, by which the sacred rights dun official foreign
agent were violated."

THE DUEL BETWEEN PIERCE BUTLER AND
JAMES SCHOTT, JR.
It took place not on the North Carolina line, but
at Bladensburg, at 5 o'clock on Monday morning.—
Harrison Gray Otis, Jr., of Boston, was the second of
Mr. Schutt, and hi+ surgeon was Dr. Gee: Lellan of
this city. Mt Allston of S C., was the second of Mr
Butler. As the challenged party, the latter decided
that the comb t iets should stund.back, walk some
paces, turn aid tire. A. Mr Schott was somewhat
lame, hi. friends protested against such terms. The
oppouents were inflexible, and so the rules were sub
mitted to. Two shots were exchanged without effect.
both parties behaving coolly, though proving themselves
poor marksmen. -Four Sckott ! said one of the
witnesses involuntarily, but he meant both the belli
gerent.. Finally Mr Schott's friend refused to let his
principal light any longer under such disadvantageous
circumstances, as he was too lame to turn mind with
celerity, and the other patty would not give way. Mr
Sehott was yesterday with John M. Clayton of Dela
ware, am! Mr Butler was at Baltimore, and is now
probably at home. The can=e of this ell .1, wo fully
explained some days ago.—Phi'.

SUDDEN DEATH OF TWO DISTINGUISHED
crrizENs CIF WA TL:R TOWN.
The Black River Jourital annotrates the almost sim
ultaneous deaths of the linnet able - Egbert Ten Eyck
and the Honorable Micah Sterling, two of the most
estimable and universally esteemed citizens of Water
town. Mr. Sterling was attacked with scarlet fever.
which causing inflamatioh upon the lungs, terminated
fatally. Mr. S. though a native of Connecticut, has
re.iderl for more than thirty years - in Jefferson County.
Few men were more extensively known, or more uni
versaNy respected. Judge Ten Eyck was a native of
this county. He too was much respected at borne
and abroad.—Alt 5. Ece. Jeer.
