TN —On Saturday ever.ing the Theatre was
~stied from Pit to Efallery, and it was necessary for
the comfort of the audience, to flop diesel° of tick:
ets to some parts of the House. Such encouragement
is very flattering to the management, and shows that
the enterprise of the fair lessee is favorably appreciat
ed by the play goers of our city. A very attractive
bill is offered for this evening.
LICTVRaII ON PALKSTINg ♦NDJCRUSALIY. — We
would call public attention to the Lectures of Mr. D,
W. Swsatz, on Palestine and Jerusalem, advertised
Sadie evening. The subjects of the Lecture will be
illustrated by forty beautiful maps and views, each
magnified to cover sixty or one hundred square feet.
These lectures have been spoken of in the highert
terms by the press in tho principal cities where they
have been delivered, and many of the most distinguish•
ed men have expressed their great satisfaction With
the highly instructive and interesting character of Mr
Swartx's descriptions of the
v Hsly Land.
By an advertisement it will be seen that Mr. Geo.
Armor has "come down a peg," and now has his
tailoring establishment in the room lately occupied as
a law office by 'Mr. Austin. He believes that the
success of his prederes3or proved that his present lo
•cation is a very' suit-able place to get up suits, but
ho thinks that he has a decided advantage of the last
occupant, as he can confidently assure all who may
employ his services, that they need not apprehend that
will be ever necessary t'a'r them to take a non-suit.
LEGISLATIVE DESPATCH
As an evidence that the Pennsylvania Legislature is
not idle, we may mention that SEVENTY—FIVE
private bills were passed through their several read
ing. by the House of Representatives on yesterday,
and ordered to he sent to the Senate for concurrence.
A similar instance of legislative despatch is perhaps
not on reord.—Derr. Union.
liar COMPLIMENT.—At a large and respectable
meeting of the M. W. T. Society, which was convened
at their Hall on the 12th inst ,the following Resolution
was adopted, with expressions of warm approbation.
Resolved, That this community owe a debt of grat
itude to the Hon. Judge Peat ER, of the Court of Quar
ter Sessions of this county, for his moral and praise
worthy course in attempting to eradicate the vice cf
dissipation from our city and county, by suppressing
those sinks of iniquity, tippling houses.
'He has stood firm and true to the cause of humanity
amidst the opposition of Bacchnnalians and official
partiality; may Go .l grant all such just and good men
a happy reward.

H DEVINE,
E G WHITESIDES, Proprietors,
BUZBY & BROTHER,
RESPECTFULLY inform theirfriends and shippers
generally, that they have changed the name of their
Transportation Line, from the United States Portable
Boat Line. to the American Portable Boat Line.
This line is composed of twenty-five new Four Sec
Lion Portable Boats, one of which will depart daily,
from Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Baltimore.
The superiority and advantages of the Portable
Boat over every other mode of transportation are too
well known to shipperi generally to require comment;
suffice it to say, that the detention, loss, separation and
damage to Goods, invariably attending three tran
shipments between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, are
by the Portable Boats most effectually removed.
To give undoubted security to offers and shippers,
all goods and produce shipped by this line will be in
sured in a responsible office in Philadelphia, without
any additional charge to the owners.
Merchandise shipped by this line in any of the east
ern cities, and consigned to II Devine &Co, will be for
warded immediately on arrival at Pittsburgh to any
part of the west, free of commissions.
H. Devine will receive produce consigned to him,
pay steamboat freight and charges, and forward the
same to any of the eastern cities, and charge no com
missions for storage, advancing or forwarding. Any
communications or goods directed to the care of the
undersigned Agents will be promptly attended to.

UNITED STATES
PORTABLE BOAT LINE
For the transportation of N'erchandize to and from
PITTSBURGH, BALTIMORE, PHILADEL
PHIA, NEW YORK AND BOSTON.
THE success this line has met with, since it wag
first established on the "Individual Enterprise"
system, has induced the proprietors to increase the
number of Boats during the winter to twenty-five, one
of which will leave Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Bal
timore every day (except Sundays) during the season.
and make the trip through in six days.
The superiority and advantages of the Portable Boat
System over every other mode of transportation (when
canals intersect with rail roads) are too well known
to shippers by this route generally to require any com
ment.
Shippers can rely on having their produce, merchan
dise, or goods of any kind that may be consigned to
the Agents of this Line, forwarded with dispatch and
at the very lowest rate of freight charged by other
Lines, without any additional charge made for receiv
ing or advancing charges, &c-
