OSAGE VALLEY A Writer in the Jeffersonian Republican gives the fallowing account of the mineral wealth of the Osage "LEAD Onx.—This article is found in many places on thebleffs of the river and its immediate vicinity, and from personal observation turd conVersation with those who are familiar with the mining. and smelting business, I am tad to the conclusion, that if we had some experi enced miners to make some trial, that the lead mines here would prove as rich and productive as those of any other portion of the State. or perhaps of Galena.— Same considerable quantitity of lead has been made on this river, and discnveries of lead have been made on Cole Camp, some ten miles from the city of Warsaw, and on the Gravois Creek, some four or five miles from the river, which look very flattering; but they have nut been worked enough to test their extent, yet they -are believed to be extensive. But the citizens in their vicinity tin not know any thing about mining, and many of them do not know what the ore is when shown them. The writer was once shown a piece of lead ore by one cf the most intelligent citizens of Morgan entity, within four miles of Osage river, and asked if he knew what it was. Ironore is very abundant in this as well as in many other portions of the State; and 1 should not name it here, were it not to show the very decided advantages fur the manufacturing of iron; for I believe it is pretty generally admitted that there is sufficient iron in the State of Missouri. for the aunty of the world. In many places in this Valley, great Water power may be found convenient to stone coalland iron ore, and the great Niangua Spring is preferabfh to the cele brated Iron Mountain; for here you)tave stone coal anti iron ore near one of finest water courses in the world, and only eight miles from this beautiful stream, whilst keel boats of reasonable size could at any time go from the spring to the Osage river in the Mangan creek. Stone coal is found in many places convenient to the Ossage river, uf a good quality, and I am infor med that, Mr Gjasby, of the firm of Gaty, M'Cune & Glosby, iron founders of St Louis, has been making some examination, and has sent some specimens to the East, which being tried has proven to be equal to the celebrated Canal coal of England. Again, it is said by Maj A Wetmore, in his Gaze leer of Missouri, that a fine specimen of native mat blu Isla be found, which it is thought will bear a polish equal to the 1 tali an. Now, sir, all that is wanting to have these vast re sources of the Valley developed, is to have the navi gation of this beautiful river improved; it may truly be said that the solitary places shall be made glad, and the batiks ofthe Osage shall be main to bud and blossom ai the tisse."- PHILADELPHIA TYPE AND STEREOTYPE FOUNDRY. CURE OF A CANCEROUS SORE Dr. Benjamin Brandreth:—Houored Sir, owing to you a debt of gratitude that money cannot ray, I am induced to make a public acknowledgment of the ben efit my wife has derived from your invaluable About three years this winter she was taken with a pain in her ankle, which soon became very much in flamed and swollen, so much so that we became alarm ed, and sent for the doctor. During hi+ attendance the pain and swelling increased to an alarming degree, and in three weeks from its first cemmeaciment it be came a running sore. She could get no rest at night the pain was so great. Our first doctor attended her for six months; and she received no benefit whatever, the pain growing worse and the sore larger all the while. He said Wit was healed up it would be her death, hut he appeared to lie at a loss how to proceed, and poor wile still continued to suffer the most terrible tortures. We therefore sought other aid in a Botani cal doctor, who said when he first saw it that he could soon cure the sore, and give her ease at once. To our surprise he gave her no relief, and acknowledged that it baffled all his skill. Thus we reit after having tried during one whole year the experience of two celebrated physicians in vain, in absolute despair. 'My poor wife's constitution rapidly failing in the prime of her years from her con tinued suffering. Under these circumstances we con dud id that we would try your Universal Vegetable Pills. determined to fairly test their curative effects.— To my wife's great comfort the first few doses afford ed great relief to the pain. Within one week, to the astonishment of ourselves and every one whokoew the case. the swelling and the inflammation beganito cease so that she felt quite easy, and would sleep comforta bly, and sir, after six weeks use she was able to go through the house, and again attend to the manage ment of her family, which she had not done for 19 months. In a little over two months from the time she first commenced the use of your invaluable pills, her ankle was quite sound. and her health better than it had been in quite a number of years before. I send you this statement after two years test of the cure, con sidering it only an act of justice to you and the public at large. • We are, with much gratitude, - Very respectfully. TIMOTHY AND ELIZA LITTLE. P. S. The Botanical Doctor pronounced the sore cancerous, and finally said no good could be done, un less the whole of the flesh was cut off, and the bone scraped. Thank a kind Providence this made us re sort to your pills, which saved us from all further mis ery, and for which we Lope to be thankful. re'Solcl at 25 cents per box, with directions Observe the new labels, each having upon it two signatures of Dr. Brandreth.
