Le 14. ii------------------- To the Public. THE false anti infamous imputations intended to be cast upon me, by a card that in the Morning Post of the lith inst., requires a statement from me to explain the motives of the persons engaged in this persecution. The charge that 1 will not pay the prices fur work is false, and known to be so by those woo make it. It is evident to every body in and out of the trade, that the value of labor depends, ton g reat extent, on the manner in which it is performed, and the quality of the naaterill worked upon. Good workmen on good cloth deserve and receive corresponding wages; but where inferior workmen aro employed un cheap cloths, that afford little or no prufit, it is unreasonable and a bsurd to expect employers to pay exorbitant prices for mak ing cheap articles on whiah they realize a very trifling profit. The poor men ea-whir:ll on this kind of work, are the special objects of these iwrsons, wh 1, aideby d • w ould-be rival establishrrwats, are attempting to injure the business of the " Three Big. Doors." If they - could get work nt edict shops fur - the men they are now trying to coas. or coerce out of my employ, thew no w t niglst not appear so censurable; hut this thev can not or will not do. They cure not if their victims should starve--all they stare for is to embarrass me in getting my goods mandfactured , after that they are r egardless of the wrong they itillict on the pour peuole they force into their measures. As to the wages, I can fearlessly assert that the pri ces paid by me are better and more ativantavons to the operatives than those of any other simila whoblmentin the city. Instead of forcing those work for me to receive orders on which they must roofer ru inous shaves, I pay for all labor in cash, and the ad vantages of such payments are too well known to workmen to require explanation. Those who work do for me have no complaints to make; they know that I give them employment on better would they can get at any other shop, anti they would' willingly con tinue, but far thetiof squads of idle persons who follow them on t is and make them r eturn the work from which they expected to realize the means of support for themselves and families If the persons who are engaged in this disreputable conspimcy think that they can injure me in my busi ness by the course they are pursuing they are very much mistaken. Large as my stock of goods is, I can have it all manufaclurtal by good workmen who are too in dependent to become the tools of envious dea with theers in "old clothes," who are unable to comp se - 'Three Big Doors; and to preserve their independence they think it is bettor for them to work for tose who can give them good wages and prompt pat hos cossh., than to join the idle few who are trying to force peor men out of employment with the hope that by so doing they can injure an establishment that bus given more work to journeymen, and at better prices, than all the slop shops that are now trying to annoy it. In closing this card, it may be proper to inform my Menage/ad the public at large, that every article in the clothing line is onhand and can be made to order at the shortest notice and in the most fashionable style at the "Three Big Doors." The gre:t variety and ex cellence of my stock of cloths will enable me to please all tastes The public are respectfully in'vfell to call And examine for themselves. 3 OH `l Id'CLOSKEY , M „ S .
