THIGILSDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 19, 1843
rITISBURGH BOARD OF TRADE.
oceavitrm. TOR DICEICHER. •
Eichtmum—F. .Lorens—Robert Bell.
larNe give to-day an abstract of the Report of
Portmastar Guneral, which will doubtless be in-
Westin to many of our reader 4.
tiairtoartos.—The weather is very cold and a good
shel Gibe ix running in the River. There has been a
rise of three feet in the Monongahela and Ohio, but
business is about over. if the present weather con
tinues, our Rivers must close in a few days. Indeed,
most of our Boats have stopped running in anticipation
ut'such an event.
STEAMER CLETET.ANT).—I've stated in our paper
of Monday ; that this boat hal funk at Deadman. Du-
Ting the day, we were beset at every corner with re
-quests that we should contradict th, , statement, and
were assured that it was incarr...ct. We made diligent
inquiry, and•wereindueed to believe that we ha.d been
misinformed; so we stated in our paper of Tuesday that
she had not been sunk but only injured somewhat. This
was made from the best authority. It now turns nut,
however, thtt she did sink, and now lies at Deadman's
Island, with 30 inches water in her hold. They hope
to be able to save her by the present rise of water, as
bulkheads have been built at each end of the break. So
the Cleveland is sunk—we'll stiek to that.
CON C E Vocal and instrumental Concert wit

ford real enjoyment to ever lover °ramie, who wiil

aided that distinguished per former in many of his con
certs. He will be assisted by many artists of this city
of well established reputations. The Concert alto
gether will be one of the best ever given in this city,
and we hope Mons BLEY nyty be weicomNl by a large
audience.
LARD LAMI.—We hav e been ❑sing for some ev
enings pasta new description of Lard Lamp, invented
by W. W. Bacon, of Middletown, Coon., which we
think answers the purpose better than the many other
inventionswe have seen for burning lard. They are
for saleat Mr. ions Dusts-es tin Store, Market street.
where we would advise all who wish to have light much
cheaper and better than ordinary oil lamps to call and
make a purchase.
FIRE.-A fire broke out last evening, between 5
and 6 o'clock, on the corner of Washington and Pro ,
pect. strect.l, and before the flames could be extinguish
ed a stablz, in whi:h thr:e was a horse a.id cow, %V a

Travellers should select Boats provided with
Evan's Safety Guardsfor preventing Explosion of
Stearn Boilers
IT would be well for the traveling community to
bear in mind that their security depends entirely
upon their own encouragement of boats that have or
may be at the expense of procuring the above appara
tus. And that every individual making such selec
tions is caatributing towards a general introduction of
an invention admitted by all men who understand the
principles of the Steam Eng, - ine, to be a sure preventa
tive against those dreadfill disasters. You have cer
tainly, in the hundreds of explosions that have already
taken place, their almost daily occurrence, and the
thousands of lives that have already been lost, a suffi
cient warning, and inducement to make inquity for a
Safety guard Boat, and in evezy case to give it the
preference. They have went to an additional expense
that your lives may be secure. Ought you not therefore
to meet them with a correspondingdegree of liberality,
and by your preference show that you appreciate their
laudable endeavors to stop this awful sacrifice of hu
man life. They do not charge more than other boats;
their accommodations in other respects are equal, and
in many cases superior; and as there is one leaving
Pittsburgh every day, why will you run any risk, when
it is so completely in your own power to avoid these dis
asters.
All boats marked thus [ y] in the List of Arrivals and
Departures, in another part of this paper, arc supplied
with the Safety Guard.

Valuable faunal for Sale at a Bargain.
Vei-'y Cheap for Cask!
ATRACT consisting of one hundred and forty-six
acres of timber land, situated immediately on
the Ohio river, in the State of Indiana, between Cincin
nati and Louisville, a suitable location to establish a
very profitable WOOD YARD—a great majority of
the timber being beech and poplar. It is a well known
fact that cordwood of this kind is always bought in pre
ference to any other by steam boats. There is no point
on the Ohio rivet where good wood will bring a better
price. In addition to this, there 13 no part of the west
ern rivers navigated by so many steamers—and hence
the great demand for good cordwood. It is obvious
that this land is more valuable on account of the tim
ber, as the clearing of less than onehalf will more than
pay the original cost of the land. The poplar logs can
be very advantageously rafted to Louisville, where
they have always brought a good price, and are much
used for building purposes. The soil is remarkably
rich—and when cleared of its valuable timber, will suit
in every respect for all kinds of farming purposes. The
produce of the farm, by water, is within a half of a
day's reach of two of the finest markets in the western
country, namely, Cincinnati and Louisville.
Any person wishing to make reside and productive
investment, would do well to purchase th 3 above de
scribed property.

Western Real Estate Agency of
EGOLF & FOSTER.

size, that may be baughtchenn for ca.h. d 2
