wharf' this morning. A large number of our citizens
called on Wit during the evening. and we understand
that the ceremony of reception, as arranged by the
committee, with the exolition of his arrival at 10
o'clock, will take place this more* as published,

Digger Wanted," and another was published y ster
day;stating that there are enough Miners in this neigh
horhotal to do all the work, but that they are now on a
"strike" . for an increastoof wages. The prices former
ly paid diggers was I dollar and 75 cents per bun
dredlinshels, and they have turned out for en advance
of twenty-five cents on these prices.. This is a season
when , the services of the Miners cannot well be dis
pense 4 with, and from a conversation with some of
the employers we think the advance demanded will
away be granted. At dollars per hundred they
an make tolerably good wages, but scarcely enough
rhea the very severe and dangerous nature of their
mployinent is considered. We believe the principal
ensuns• Of the employers for objecting to the increase
wages is that their contracts for the delivery of coal
;vere made under the old prices, and that the advance
will eat up the greater portion of their profits.

tainly, in the hundreds of explosions that have already
taken place, their almost daily occurrence, and the
thousands of lives that have already been lost, a suffi
cient warning, and inducement to makeinqtary for a
Safety guard Boat, and in every case to give it the
preference. They have went to an additional expense
that your lives may be secure. Ought you not therefore
to meet them wi th a corresponding degree of liberality,
and by your preference show that you appreciate their
laudable endeavors to stop this awful sacrifice of hu
man life. They do not charge more than other boats;
their accommodations in other respects are equal ) and
in many cases superior, and as there is one leaving
Pittsburgh every day, why will you run any risk, when
it is so completely in your own power to avoid those dis-
asters
