Moe-Law IN MADISON CO., lA.—The company
who some time since were engaged in mobbing some
brawling Abolitionists, were prosecuted at the recent
session of Court in that county. The mob gentry,
says the New Castle Courier, agreed among them
selves that one of them should go forward and plead
guilty, inectier to experiment upon the temper of the
Courtinregard to the amount or fine it would impose.
If the fine should be light, all agreed to do the same.
If severe, the balance agreed to refuse to plead guilty,
and to rescue the culprit who did plead guilty from
punishment. The fine was twenty dollars and costs,
to whichwas added twenty days imprisonment. This
enraged his mob associates, and they assembled in large
numbers, to demolish the, ail. The officers and citi
tens defended it for one day. The rioters, that night,
sent on to the Governor for a pardon for the imprisoned
man. In the meantime hundreds were encamped,
armed, around the jail, awaiting the return of the mes
senger sent for a pardon, when, should he fail to bring
one, they say they shall commence again and the old
jail shall go!
A DISPUTE.
iss Pittsburgh papers are unsettled, as yet, about
the reports of the depth of water, in the channel of the
Ohio, which appears in their papers. Certain it is,
they vary wonderfully. Wonder if their Reporters
"take a drop" semi•occasionally.—Cin. Cont.

atheist &St get enough of that, as the complaints of
our down-the•river friends sufficiently denote.
