BUACKLMILDGE. — Itead the article commencing on our first page explaining the treachery and ingratitude of H. M. Brackenridge to his benefactor, Gen. Jackson. This article fully substantiates the statemcnts made in Gen. Jackson's Neter, which we published a few weeks since, and pla-, ees Judge B. in a position from which all the conning of deceit and falsehood will fail to extricate him. THICATRE.—There was no performance at the Thu - etre on Monday evening; the evening being very incle wit the audience was considered too small to play to. The money of the persons who , bought tickets was re turned to them. We understand that st great many more applied fur restltution than there was money in the treasury to satisfy their demands, and many con. eidered it very unkind that the Treasurer did not couti noels pay out after his funds were exhausted. BRITISH MOVEREN TS IN TEXSS.—In the British House of Loris, Lord Brougham stated that the im portance of Texas could not be underrated. After des cribing its extent and fertility, and alluding to its im portance as an outlet for the surplus slaves of the Uni ted States, he remarked: "This made him irresistably anxious for the abolition oralavery in Texas. for if it were abolished there, not only would that country be cultivated by free and white labor, bat it would put a stop to the practice of breed ing slaves for the, Texan market. The consequence would be, that they would solve this great question in the history of the United States, for it must ultimately vnitd. in the abolition of slavery in America. He, there fore, looked forward moist anxiously to the abolition of 514,10 throughout the whole of America." ATIlp Earl of Aberdeen, Chief of the Foreign Depart mat ik. expressed his anxiety for the abolition of slavery in ?etas. England had acknowledged the independence of Texas, and had made treaties with it. He intimated that negotiations were now pending for the abolition of slavery in that country, and that the late armistice be tween it and Mexico, as a preparatory step to the ac crylishmontofthisollject, had been obtained through Og l iatorvention of England, after encountering very grit difficulties. At present he refits d to state the _progress of the negotiations. SYS ATOR HA N N /MA hy does So respectable a paper as the Baltimore Patriot intimate that Mr. Han negan's seat will be contested by 0. H. Smith?— There is not a shadow of reason for such a "contest," in the first place; and, in the next. Mr. Smith has not the most distant thought of troubling the Senate in that way. This matter was put at rest Aix mouths ago, when first mentioned by some silly letter writer, and is now revamped anew, for what pdrposo it is hard to say.—lad. Express.
