home, aged about nine months, was on Thursday,
scalded severely, by the upsetting of a coffee pot. As
somas it was discovered, they dipped it into a tub of
Willer, thinking thereby to cool it. It's death may be
the result of this piece of ignorance.

A N ORDINANCE authorizing the Mayor to bor
row Six Thousand Dollars, to pay fur pipes in
the Fifth Ward and other places.
Section 1. Be it ordained and enacted by the citi
zens of Pittsburgh, in Select and Common Councils
aasernbled, that the Mayor be authorized to borrow on
the credit of the city, the mim of Six Thousand Dollars,
and issue certilcat.e;Of Loan for the same, in sums not
less than one hundred Dollars, bearing an interest of
six percent., payable half yearly, on the first days of
April and October every year, which certificates shall
not be redeemed without the consent of their holders,
before the first day of January, eighteen hundred and
fifty-four.
See. 2. Be it ordained and enacted, That the
faith, credit, funds, and corporate property of the City
of Pittsburgh, is hereby pledged for the payment of
said certificates, and the interest accruing thereon.
Sec. 3. The proceeds of said certificates are hereby
set apart for the payment for new pipes, and the expen
ses of laying the same, and taking up and relaying the
old pipe now used fur conveying the water from the riv
to the Basin on Grant's Hill.
Ordained and enacted into a Law in Councils, this
31st day of July, A. D., 1843.

Cattle at Auction.
Section 1. Be it ordained and enacted by the citi
zens of Pittsburgh, in Select and Common Councils as
sembled, That from and after the passage of this Or
dinance, it shall not be lawful for any person to expose
for sale at Auction any Horse, Ox, Cow, or Bull, in
any Street, Alley, or Square belonging to the City, un
der the penalty of five dollars, to be recovered as pro
'tided in other cases, one half to go to the city, and the
other to the prosecutor, and all Ordinances, or parts
thereof, inconsistent with the present Ordinance, are
hereby repealed.
Ordained and enacted into a Law in Councils, this
