JUNE t, 1543.
The' haembers of the Trades' Union will
be gratified to learn that an important com.
munication was received by last night's
mail, from their Cincinnati friends.
Theatre.—The entertainments for to%
night, are the richest, most varied, spiciest
' sod most attr2ctive that have been pre
l'seated this season. They are for the ben..
ifit of the deserving stage manager, Mr.
Gann. Don't forget to read his bill.
-7 The entertainments of to-morrow even
ing are for the benefit of the widoir and
'orphan children of the late C. H, Eaton.
We thought so.—The wicked attempt to
fire Dr. Gazzam's row turns out to be a
hoax. We cannot help wondering, how
ever, that after the dreadful breeze kicked
up by the Age about it, it should end in
smoke.
The "friends of union" held their pri
mary meetings on Saturday evening, and
we believe strong reso!utions were adopt—
ea at all of them, condemning a union with
the blue—noses.
Tke Whig Convention.—This body
meets touday at the new Court House.—
There will be a great deal of boring by
the candidates already nominated and their
friends, to have their names placed upon
the new ticket, but with what success we
canuot say. What may be the resu!t of
their deliberation today we cannot con.
jectnre, and moreover care very little.
.We have frequently experienced dull
times f.)r news, but never did we see such
adearth as at present. It is true that every
thing is full of lif3 and activity around us,
hut no accidents occur. Queer times are
hese: No person is fool ennuen to com
mit suicide,now,while business is reviving;
no elopements, nor funny marriages; no
mad dog's, nor hivn't been this season; no
showers of blond, fish, nor paving stones;
no, po—nothing; except, indeed, the Rail
-Road and the Trades' Union. These two
institution' have monopolised public atten
, tion and sec m likely to keep possession.
Our readers grumble at OF, but we can't
help it. We might manufacture news;
but once we attempted it and the grumbling
was louder than even now. Our "news
machine," in consequence, was thrown
aside. We might say a great deal ab-iui
the weather, but that, tinfitunaielv, is a
sabject that every p .r•snn studied as
much as ourselves, and perhar4 more; and
at! our recent att-rnpts at doing items al) nit
it have proved abortive.
W e are ir, a Tiatidary and without hope
of relief, until the p )liti , •ians g-t a little
warmer. 'Chen we will endeavor to do up
something in the excitement line.
