Santa Anna for a final settlement of the dif.
fieuhies between Mexico and her rebellious
province. The propositions are;
.let. That Texas should acknowledge
the sovereignty of Mexico.
2d. A general act of amnesty to be passed
for past acts in Texas.
_ 3d. Texas to form an independent de..
partment of Mexico.
4th, Texas to be represented in the gen
eral Congress.
6th. Texas to institute or originate all
local laws, rules and regulations.

I The following paragraph from the Civil-
I lan, contains all that is said about the Mier
prisoners.
A sloop arrived from Corpus Christi on
Sunday: It is stated that when she left there
was a detachment of Mexican soldiers at
that place. These soldiers brought the re•
port of , the escape of the prisoners at Mier.
!They say that the prisoners overpowered
the guard, and immediately dispersed a
mong the ranches, each man providing him
sell with two goods horres, and that they
then reunited and started for Texas, taking
a route high up the country to avoid the
Mexican troops. , The soldiers at Corpus
Christi did not to think their recap
ture probable, i they had been pur
sued.

ship from the Republican Office, Wilming
ton,' Del., that Jacob Cannon, E'Fq., at
Cannon's ferry, in Sussex county, in that
State, one of the firm of the well known,
wealthy, and long established house of
Isaac & Jacob Cannon, was shot in the
left breast and shoulder with a gun loaded
with shot, by Owen A. Day, of that neigh-
borhood. He lived until morning. The
provocation was;the alleged in , proper col-.
lection of a small debt. Mr. Cannon was
the most wealthy citizen in the county, and
has always borne an excellent charleter

Corvette, on the 13th, and sailed for Ja

cial operations were entirely suspended.
The Patriots took possession of Gonaives
on the 17th, but was not able to hold it
only conditionally.
News Boys in trouble.—ln Boston, the
boys who sell 1 enny papers have been
snatched lip before the Municipal Court
on the grave charge of "standing for an
hour or more in State street." They are
bad enough, tri be sure, but the idea of
bringing a criminal prosecution against
them for asking a man to buy a paper, is
ridiculous. If they were arrested fir steal.
