The Weather.—The Weather yesterday was
by no means different from that width usually
prevails on election d aye, and in time of great
public excitement. At an early hour in the
morning, it commenced to rain, and It continued
to fall in alight showers at intwals throughout
the entire day. The side-walks on the streets
were consequently in a very bad condition, and
inwl.was very.plentiful in every partof thocity •
Notwithstanding these inconvenle - nales, those
who felt any interest in the election, ol.whom
the number Was unprecedented, were continually
on foot, going from one ward to another, and
from one precinct to another, making inquiry
concernibg the number of votes polled by : either
party. Of course they were Considerably triton
venienced by the had state of the weather, but
this obstacle did not hinder them from pursuing
thelrjourney in quest of information so impor
tant to every one.

day, and although the day was both rainy and
uncomfortable, nevertheless the Crowds of voters
congregated around the polls were exceedingly

excitement was oat very great, butfincrsased to

was intense. As may be men by referring to the

there were any at all. The Democracy were all
allmand'had already' polled a oonaiderable vote
before twelve o'clock, though around the hours
of four.amisix o'clock, it vastly increased. On
the whole, it may be 11,1 d, that the greatest
interest was man ifeateM in the result of the des
tion, full worthy of the issues to be decided.
Tile utmost good order and depoiam
prevailed in all parts of the city yes
terday, and although the political excitement
waaintense, no disturbance of'anf &Mu nature
occurred during any part of She day. The citi
