His Honor, Judge it inked the jury
fur their able presentment, but alledged that
they were mistaken in two things. (I s , was In
that the Court had not complied with the law
to requiring the proper affidavits to be present

of twelve good citizens, before granting a li

Drowned.—We regret to have to chronicle
another death by drowning. A boy about
twelve years of age named Frank Long, a son
of David M. Long, esq., who lives on Penn
street, nearly opposite the place of public
amusement, called Tnruble's Varieties, west
into the river to swim, about five o'clock yes
terday evening. Ile was playing around the
base of the second pier of the St. Clair street
bridge in company with some other boys, where
he accidently fell into the water. Another boy
a little older made every effort to get him out,
and did finally rescue the body, but too late to
restore life, lie was carried home and every
etlbrt made to resuscitate vitality, but all in
vain. Several men were standing on the bridge
And along the wharf at the time, but they made
p 0 offort to save him. This is the third boy that
tuts bubo drowned at this bridge within a month

Criminal Court.—The following cases were
disposed of: Commonwealth vs. Christian Back
ner assault and battery; each party pay half the
emit. Commonwealth vs Jas. Lanahary; set:

is on trial, Commonwealth is James Giles and

Railroad Accident
NEW HAVEN, CONN.. June 20.—The
