The Bond Bill in tourt.--lhel,zelimina
ry step towards testing the right of the School
Directors of the city to issue bonds under the
new bounty bill WFi. taken up in the t. sited
States i:onrt Torsdsi. Siiruuel Wiley and wife,
residents of the Starr of Illinois, own, it ap
pears, a large amount rit property in the Six! ti
Ward, and their attorneys here, holding that
the School Director, of the w ant hare ilo au
thority to issue b mds under the law, hare filed
a bill in chancery to restrain them from so do
ing. The members or the Board were ss-ra ed
with the usual notice ,n nll,ll ca,es, stud it is not
likely that any torther towards issuing
the bonds will tie taken until the question now
before the Court has ra,i, .lecoleil. The sec
tion of the act reads. That the said county
commissioners or scho .1 otre, tors toadeumwie
sinners or any lownsloi•—•1 corporate authon
ties of any city. war I of ourough, are hereby au
thorized i for the purpose of carrying out the pro-
Villioll6 of this act o borrow money and issue
bonds or certificates oi indebtedness," &c. Tak
ing the law as it here reads, it is contended that,
while the• School Directors of the townships
may issue bonds, there is 110 authority wit en the
School Boards of the city to do anything of the
kind. Hasty legislation, like everything else, is
apt to be imperfect; sod we suppose the Court
will, in its decision, look as well to the intention
as the wordlny of the net
Serious Cutting Affray.—An &Wray of a
very serious nature occurred 3 esterday
at
ternoon at the "Lannahan House.” on Penn
street, by which a man named Thomas Hai
was seriously, ii not fatally, wounded.
It seems that a man named Jacob Taylor,
a shoemaker, and a single man about 36 sears
of age, who resides with a man - led brother in
Minersville, in company with James MeVernon.
who is a carpenter and a neighbor of Teti lor•s,
visited Lannahan's yesterday, with the view, on
the part of Taylor,ot seeing his sister-in-law whu
isengaged as a domestb: at Lannahan's. Whilst
there an altercation took place between Taylor
and Bays, which resulted in the former cutting
the latter in the abdomen. the wound literal!,
embowelling him. As soon AS the cutting took
place the parties attempted to make their en-
cape, but Mayor Lowri , being in the vicinity,
arrested them, and they are now in the cells
awaiting the result of t he injured man's wounds.
lie was not in a condition last evening to snake ,

tending him, and has but little hopes of his re-
cOvery.

Great Panorama 131 the Rebellion will open this
evening (Monday 4th) at' Concert Ralf Songs
and duets by Miss Emma keignolits and Mrs.
W. R. Goodwin, late ot the Pittsburgh Theatre,
will add greatly to the entertainment of the oc
casion. The exhibitions will continue every
evening during the week. Matinees on Wednes
day and Saturday afternoons. We understand
that the Panorama is a work of more than usual
merit, and eminently calculated to intertain
and interest. The principal battle-tielda of the
war and numerous scenes and incidents of the
Rebellion are lividly and ttuthfully portrayed.
A very pleasant evening or an afternoon can be
spent at these entertainments and no one should
neglect to go. The singing alone will prove a
treat of more than ordinary character, and the
' whole comhined will assuredly please all classes
of tastes.
