it - he Daily ptut. Politics in the Army Washington' Mire4poadoOet op the =World. Every one in Washington understands that the removal of Pleasanton, French, Newton,Aykes, and ttitk other Generals from the Asiny of the Potomac, is a blow at Mcelellanisin there, aimed I -v Secretary Stanton, : though ek.pparentiy exectlVid„ 4itherit. . `Theitioke is a Clever one. Probably it was necessary to reorganize and consolidate. There were too many otticers for the more than decimated ranks of that brave body of soldiers, and the necessity ofreorganiza tion was the lever whikh Stanton has usiql fo accomplish 'his purpose, but in choosing the Generals to be weeded out, he has had a single eye to a political pur pose. . '1 hat purpose is to use every means to control the vote of the Army of the Po tomac in the coming Presidential elec limai, Now,, the &army: `a -ere vote for Ckueral Mtelbllati,tf - Were' a candi date, almost en masse, in spite of all the blandishments of Mr. Lincoln. There are those here who belive, and do not hesitate to assert, that it is the intention of the Administration to per petuate its power in any event, whatever the result Of the November election, and that the plans are laid wide and deep to accomplish that result. Ido choose to credit that theory yet, for I cannot suppose Mr. Lincoln and his cabinet think so lightly of their own necks, or so meanly of their fellow-coun try men as to suppose that they could accomplish such a revolutionary plot against the wishes of even a minority of ow:J . OlMb the legal voters of the coun try.: lam only- willing - to admit as yet that the facts thus far disclosed, the threads of the Republican plot weal ing, run more consistently with that the,•ry than any other, thus far. In spite of that I insist upon believ ing es yet that the real purpose of the Republicans is only to gain the next elcction by fair means, and toul means-. SeizUre of Counterfeit Postage Currency.—The Troy Time , ' of Satur day says that William H. Diamond, mail agent on the Hudson River Railroad, was arretted ilythat city on Friday Ily Deputy Marshal Lovell, of Syracuse, on a charge of circulating counterfeit frac tional currency. The Time* says: "Marshal Lowell has for some time known that counterfeit postal currency and Treasury notes were brought to Al bany and Troy by some unknown per sons and delivered to confederates, to be scattered broadcast over the rural els triets. Suspicion finally fell upon this mail agent, a man who has held the po sition forfour or five years, and has been regarded as above reproach. He is a son of Captain William Diamond, of Stephentown, and is well known in Trov and vicinity. Officer Lowell has fob Arwed•him patiently and finally "worked 4 , , he case in a manner that authoriz- N • to pounce upon Diamond. ch embarked upon the train at New York—pursuer and pursued. Nothing occurred until the cars reached the depot, when the arrest was made. On search. ing Diamond he was found to have a -large quantity of counterfeit postal cur rency—fresh clean and tolerably well executed—tied to the buttons of Lis sus. penders. He acknowledged that he had been a common carrier of this bogus stuff for some time past, but denied 113 N - ing circulated any of it directly. It was his habit, it seems, to receive orders and deliver the currency—and a large amount - of altered and counterfeit Tr,..s ury notns were to have been brought up on this particular trip. Officer Lowell telegraphed for officers Kipp and Hurl I di t to be present at the depot to assist him in the arrest. but the dispatch did not reach themin time. Leaving tue pris oner in jail, Mr. Lowell started for his home in Syracuse at noon today Loading Guns by Steam.—Ti: English are great hands at getting up new" things after they have been inven ted hy somebody else first. An individ ual named "Walker"(a significant ap pellation) claims the armor on the Monitors as his discovery, and now another person, Mr. Cunningham, has just invented an apparatus for working large o,llllo,y . ..steam, power, and thinks it is a great novelty. Captain Eads of St. Louis, Missouri, has now nearly ready, for service a gunboat called the Milwaukee, which is an iron hull gun boat with two revolving turrets, one of which is invented and patent ed by James B. Eads, and the other is after the plan of Captain Erics son. .Both moult ttKoeleven -inch Dahl gren guns. In Mr. Eads' turret the guns are moved entirely by steam, and an. loaded . in the holl of the vessel, and raised by steam to be fired. They are run out by steam and recoil against steam, one man. being all that is needed to Work, the•guns,, with the exception of loading thew The portholes are only the size of the muzzles of the guns, yet twenty-two degrees of elevation and live degrees of depression can be obtained from them. It ; is now over two years since Edwin L. Stephens, esq., exhibit ed a steam-loading apparatus on board of the Alatigatuck, For Rats, Mice, Roaches, A:ntit, Moths in Furs.
