Express Bobber Convicted.— The
trial of A. P. Murphy, of Uniontown,
lately agent of the Adams Express Com
pany at that place, took place last week
before Judge Lindsay. As young Mur
phy had previously occupied a fine posi
tion in society there, and as the amount,
alleged to have been taken by him Was
large—over $2,500 —a great deal of inter
est was manifested, and there was a large
attendance during the trial. The testi
mony wa-- very full and conclusive against
the accused, and the jury had no difficul
ty m finding a verdict guilty. The pris
oner maintained an attitude of entire in
difference during the trial. Cpon the
rendition of the verdict, and the remarks ]
and sentence of the Court, although lie :
is not yet twenty-one years of age, the
Court stated to him that it was evident :
he had accomplices u ho were more guilty |
than he, and that if he would divulge i
their names the sentence would be made '
as light as possible. He refused to do
so, and was then sentenced to imprison- i
ment to the Penitentiary for eighteen I
months. No part of the nicjney Uas been
secured by the Company.
As the immense business of the Com
pany is transacted through agents, it is a
matter of the highest moment to them,
that sueli crimes should meet with sure
punishment, although in this case the !
Company would gladly have had young 1
Murphy escape, if they could have discov- !
•ered his accomplices, who beyond doubt '
used him as a tool. • I

reliable autboiity that very man}’ of the
