DAILY POST. 8 IR DAY, OVEMBER 7. 11033 From the Dm 'Moines Union FRAVDS IN lOWA. Startling- Developments We have met several persons from the country who, in discussing the result of the election, account for the large increase in ths Republican vote, by stating that men voted in their townahip3 who were not known as residents of the township. Men who have lived in the county for fif teen years, and supposed they knew every voter in their townships, were surprised to find strangers voting with them, and when challenged were still more surprised to find them swearing their votes in. Several in this township were unknown to the old• est inhabitants: but nothing daunted, when clialienged, demanded to have the oath administered to them. We believe it is conceded that the vote in this county and throughout the State is larger than ever cast before, notwith standing we have sent from the State near ly fifty thousand men to the field, and our population has depleted very considerably by last spring's emigration to Pike's Peak and California. How is this increased vote to be accounted for, unless upon the hypothesis that there has been gross frauds practised on the ballot box? We can sow ceiy credit the supposition or sus picion. that men have voted in their own townships and counties, and then gone into others and repeated the experiment ; and yet there is no way to account for the result without having this suspicion strongly forced upon the mind, Let us inquire for intorma , vm : Is it one of the duties of a member of the "Union Lea gue" to duplicate his vote?" We have a very little respect for the patriot en: or morality of the leaders of an organizstiou based upon proscripti on and imbued with the most intense and confirmed bigotry; but we can scarcely conceive of a humanity BO debased as to me , i.road up to the ballot. box, and without the slightest apparent cc' :pauc , corrupt ti.e very founds t:k 118 liberty. fits Lallot. box is the emanation from the fathers, and til:' )' g .s; fortress for the presArcation r•i liberty.
