Mr. B borrower. imeorr.t.NT DecisioNs --In the Supreme onrt, yesterday morning, two highly 11, ortant decisions were rendered. 'I ti:st was in the case of the City of RlB burgh against Jane McGee, in winch the judgment of the court below wan SUtlifllll ed. In the year 1657, legislation was had at Harrisburg, authorizing the city to ap praise the value of all grading of ktreetP, lanes and alleys, when the city had preci ously paid for the Same, and in the future to hold the owners of the property on each street responsible for the same. Mre. McGee, the defendant in the preneut ac tion, refused to pay the amount a , sessed against her, and judgment for the earns was obtained;in the District Court: but all appeal was taken to the Supreme - . 0 ,rt. and the judgment of the court lint, v . tained. By this decision the c y w;ll he the gainer by upwards of tf , 200.(00. The case of the City agair,o. Dr. Wr , ..y. was also decided in the Supreme C,:rr yesterday. This was also important cued so far as the interests and rights 'f the city are concerned. It seems that Dr. Wray attempted to evade the payment of an assessment made on him to pay for dama ges sustained by Mrs. Roe in the grading of Washington street. The court held that the law authorizing the assessment of damages against property benefitted e grading of a street, to compensate those i whose property might be injured by the work, was valid and proper, and the Judg ment cf the court below, which was ad verse to ;he Doctor, was confirmed. arK E'S 1 Rlr 7.4 CONVENTION OF TELEGRAPH OPERATORS. ---We noticed a few days since tie fact that a National Convention of Telegraph Operators was to assemble in New York on Monday last, for the purpose of form ing a National Telegraphic Union, and devising a compreheisive pier for the protection and advancement of the char acter and interests of the profession. The weather on Monday wet clear and mild; this morn ng was rainy and tv.ruier, which was against the dro v-rs' interest, but :he •act of its being election d iy was more so, for it keeps away all bat those who come on porpo.e to find enettp bargain , . It will be observed that rte supply is more than a thousand more than last week, reaching over ki p t, - .,r the whole city, and , his it; enough to ep prices from advancing, The average ous,ity is much better, and t: erefore we keep the average at the same, but reiterate the remark that the mar) , et is not as good this week as test. and that it closes dull. and-briiirers find it hard to sell out all the stack. THE WUXI , ILAIULET. Receipts this week, 15,31. The market opened on Monday morning in 5.x...h street with a supply too large for the de mand, pad the nrtural con :w an es followed. Indeed, it had been too large for some days, ao much so that several hundred head were leftover unsold on ca:orday. That was not much to be wondered at, as the reports from the wholesale meat market gave very low rates, the weather being warm and rainy, acid butchers afraid to let meat hang on the hooks till Monday. is morning, beaide the sheep left over in th sale pens, we hear of lots in almost every daughter pen. s none of the large buyers are anxious to secure droves unless at their own pr:cell, which are not over sSfaBc tp fo fore 20106 sheep, and not mush higher for lambs. We noticed one Ai; of good fair quality fine wool cheep that averaged R 3 lb each in Albany, offered at do oon the scao,e here. but the buyer wanted them at He finials tous them at $5 25 a heed -- say 5%c lb, (10.4 fair lots of lambs sold at $4 each • some extra good ones a: $506, :and some extra good sheep at $6 25, Tho price or pelts for the month is not yet Net- tlad. Butchers would contract them at $450, but the pelt buyers are not willing to oontiact at over st, but preferring to buy lots at their value from time to time. They appear to be afraid of the wool market, and that theaupply of sheen ie like ly to be unusually large thin month. owing to the great advance of grain and hay. A good mini farmers who bought cheep a month or two ago, to teed, have determin:d to sell them, and tot: will uatu ally tend to crowd the m.re iv and keep priest from advancing.
