Theories of Reconstruction.
Wo print this morning a mass of rea
soning ami speculation on the method of
re-establishing the Union of the Stales—
a topic of such paramount importance as
to lend interest to whatever may be said
upon it by any man or journal prominent
enough to be presumed to represent any
considerable fraction of public sediment.
. The lon fi lett « of Mr. Whiting, Holic
itor of the War Department, to the Phila
delphm Union League, more especially
challenges attention, because his ror-hden
tial relations with the administralicu ren
der it probable that the theory he presents

even this minority is'dryided in'opinion
as to the basis on which.the Union should
be restored. The idea that such a minor

the very existence of the government is
preposterous. An argument founded on

command the approval and suffrages of a
majority of the ; whole people. There
need be no fear that the wide latitude of
discretion possessed by such a body would
throw onr existing institutions into Gener
al unhingement. We have a complete
guarantee against that in the fact that the
'great and essential feature ot our existing
Constitution ate satisfactory to the
people of all sections. The confederate
constitution is mainly a word-for word
teansenpt of the Constitatibn xif the Uni
ted States. The chief divergency is in the
provisions relating to slavery. There is
“» ‘herefore, that a convention of

those parts of the Constitution which hive
been mainly mstmmental in-giving to our
country the unparalleled career of pros

of the capacity of man for Belt govern

occasioned the war, and which have arisen
m its progress, that require adjustment ;
and no adjustment has any chance ot sta

than the'approval-’of a majority of the

The Flax crop of the United States, this
year, will be larger than ever raised in the
United States, and inquiries are made as

ia a high state of cultivation, -there are upon
the place one-fourth of an aero of Strawberry,
and 75 to 80 grape vines bearing this Besson,
with 1,200 to 1,500 one and two year old young
grape vines ready for planting this fall; also a
lot of New Rochelle blackberries, from which
there was made last fall 180 gallons of wine, and
they look first rate now, with a lot of raspberry,
rhubarb and a few appje and peach trees coming
in bearing, with flowering shrubbery, all of the
choicest kind, The lot contains three acres,
with a brick cottage with six rooms and a k&lh
and wash and lumber house, a stable* and never •
failing well of water at the door.
Owing to domestio affliction I wish to sell and
will make payments easy and give possession
immediately, It would make a boautiful private
residence or would suit a gardener, for which
purpose it has been used. If not sold before the
first of January it will bo leased to a gardener on
the shores.
