P. — N viii bag succeeded in not only raising one, bat already there are names sufficent downlia_fill two companies. The Captain is a business man and knows how to man• age matters. We have the satisfaction of stating now that this company has grown from a hundred to a hundred and sixty members, and more coming in daily, and that the probability is that there will be enough gallant men to make two full companies. More than this, we are informed that last night at an informal meeting,of the company, it was agreed to ''"organize under the late and satisfactory who Brooke. Sixty members __(all were present) signed at once, and ' - 'who can will, doubtless ' follow suit as soon as the matter comes before them. .Milting Cases for the Soldiers. Mr. Miner, Fifth street, has just re• ceived another lot of Soldiers writing cos * the neatest and most convenient yet made. These cases weigh but a couple of ounces and are such a convenience to sal diere that every person who has a friend in the army should send for one of them. They can be had for a mere trifle, and cannot send to soldiers a gift, the receipt of which will be hailed with more lively satisfaction. Judge seek, One of the party dismissed from the Ar seual, calle3 upon us to-day and stated that he was not one of the original party whose names were .reported by Mr. Mc Farland,.and that he was not aware of any accusation against him until he was dis charged. He exhibits an affidavit to this effect, - Made before Justice Janey. We have only to say that, if the parties an ,ensed had appointed their portion of the committee, in accordance with their origi hut suggestion. Mr. Beck, and all others suspected, would have had ample oppor tunity for defense. Now they seek to create sympathy by assming that they were tried without having any notice.— Gazette, of last evening. - Manchester Light Inthntry. Death of John Irwin, Sr. Oar columns are charged this evening with the announcement of the death of an other of Pittsburgh's representative men. Mr. John Irwin, hr., is known through out Western . Pennsylvania as one of our oldest, most substantial and influential cit izens. He - was one of the earliess native born denizens of this locality ; -has always maintained a high position among its most active and energetic business men, and preserved an enviable reputation for high worth in all the spheres of lite in which he was called to act. His individual lite, dating in its origin with that of the "settlement where be was born, was ever a living influence in the tido, that, amid all the vicissitudes through which it has passed, has resulted in making Pittsburgh what it is. Mr. Irwin has been for a large portion of his life successfully en gaged in the manufacture of ropes, twine, cordage, &c. His establishment was the first and has long been the largest west of the mountains. As a business man, Mr. Irwin was singularly prompt, exact And e,:ergetie, and even daring the last f ew y ears , notwithstanding his ad vanced age , h e was r b _markable for the blitheness .or his step, the buoyancy of his spirits, and the activiti of his habits: the pulmo nary complaint which catis:d his death was ' ' contracted about two weeks shire by expo sure while superintending the bnilding_of a residence for himself at Sewickley. His great interest in its construction led him to be ever active in attending to all the de tails. Mr. Irwin was married twice, and all. his - children, we believe, are fully" grown. His sudden decease will be mourned by a large circle of relatives, by whom he was much beloved and revered.— Chronicle Watch Returned. kir.
