The report from the. Third Ward Alle
'Eheny is as follows: The number of men
employed was 818. The amount of money
subscribed and collected was $75 75, w hich
'was paid over to Mr. Thomas Bakewell,
'the Treasurer, last evening. Messrs. W.
McGee andi S. R. Rldgera were the
persona who had charge of the matter.—
They deserve credit for the successful
.manner in which their part was perforated.
Well done Third Ward, Allegheny.
Theatre---Benefit of the Treas
urer, Barry Overington.
'To -night this mach talked ()levant takes
place, and to more than merely announce
the faet we ' deem almost' unnecessary.—
The pieces selected for the occasion--
"Aurora Floyd"and "The Two Brides
of Allegheny or the Volunteer" abound
with interest. The ffrat is taken from the
popular >novel of the same name, 'written
by-Miss nraddon. The thrilling effects
produced in this beautiful drama is truly
flattering -to the effort of the tnanhgement.
The Two Brides is froa the pen of an
Qfficer of the army and is pronounced far
aove the ivcrageof the plays now a-days.
We understand seats can be secured for
those who hold Mr. Overington'a tickets.
This is probably the last time these plays
will be..plaCed upon the stage this season.

A skirmish took place to-day about ten
miles from Gettysburg -between some.of
err troops and about eighty rebels. The I
enemy retreated losing one man. What
preparations are being made by General
Couch and the State authorities to clear
the Cumberland valley of the enemy would
not be proper to give. Those who know
the true position of affairs fell Satisfied
that the ynemy pill not remain long in
the State nilesaleavily reinforced.
Information fro& Capt. Boyd, com
mending cavalry outpost, headpuarters at
Greenville, states, that the rebels are one
t housand strong five miles this side of
Chamberabnrg. It is feared that Scotland
Creek bridge has been destroyed again.
The rebels reoccupied Chamberaburg
about ele7en o'clock this morning. The
rebel cavalry pickets are now five miles
this side. The national troops under Gen.
Knipe, which were at Chambersburg, have
safely fallen back to the main body. The
authorities believe that the rebels are in
considerable force at Chambersburg.
BALTIMORE, June 22.—The information
received at the Headquarters of General
Schenck to night and corroborated by
other sources, is that Gen. Ewell's forces
to the number of from 34,000 to 40 000
are now in Maryland, in Boonsboro Val
ley. They have a large quantity of artil
lvry and cavalry and infantry. They are
building bridges across the canal and ac
tively engaged in foraging the country,
collecting supplies, &c. They crossed at
the Antietam Ford and Shepperdstown.
Gen. Belly telegraphs that Imboden's
cavalry. about 3,000 strong are at Big
Cacapon.
Gen. Halleck visited this city to-day.—
He inspected the fortifications and other
defensive works in progress here. He ez•
pressed great satisfaction at the rapidity
with which they were prepared, and the
admiration of the zealous loyalty of Union
Letgues in arming for the public defence.
NEW YORK, Jane 23—A dispatch from
General Hooker's headquarters, dated
yesterday, says: It is beyond a doubt
that the enemy's main infantry force, in
cluding the corps of A. P. Hill, is on the
immediate western slope of the Blue Ridge,
between Snicker's Dap and Winchester.
The New Orleans correspondence, by
the steamer Locust Point, states that our
siege batteries had been opened on Port
Hudson, and a continuous rain of shot and
shell was being poured into the enemy's
works. Several buildings supposed to
contain commissary stores , were destroyed
and the rebels were known to be suffering
some in killedond wounded.
An expedition had driveti away a force
oftebela collected at Clinton. Captain.
Perkins, of our 2d Louisiana cavalry, was
killed in the skirmish.
Deserters coming into our lines report
the rebel strength at least ten thousand,
well clothed but suffering for food.
Twenty five or thirty of our men are
daily added to the killed and wounded by
the rebel sharpshooters.
Capt. Hart, of the gunboat Albatross,
had committed suicide by blowing oat his
brains with a pistol, while insane from
fever.
A rebel telegram from Mobile -of the
17th says, that the rebels have repulsed
;our troops twenty-seven times at Port
!Hudsun, and that aid is close at hand.
; A courieritirived at Jackson from' Port
iHadson and strites that the Federals have
