The 'military feats he accomplishes moved
thamands Of the pepple with an astonish
ment which is only given to the highest
genius to produce. The blows -he struck
at the enemy were as terrible and decisive
as those of lionaphrte himself. The
march by which he surprised the army of
Pope last year would be enough in itself to
give him a high in military history.
13u* perhaps the crowning glory of his life
was the great battle in which be fell.—
When the federal commander, by crossing
the river twelve miles above his camp,
and pressing on, as ho thought, to the rear
of the Confederates, had placed them be
tween two bodies of his army, he was so
confident of success as to boast that the
enemy was the property of the Army of
the Potomac. It was reserved to Jackson
by a swift and secret march to fall upon
his right wing,•crush it, and, by an attuk
unsurpassed in fierceness and pertinacity,
to drive his very superior forces back into
a position from which he could not extri
catehlmselfexcept byfl ightacrose theriver.
In thebattle of tlie Sunday Jackson -received
two wounds, one in the.left arm, the other
in the right baud, amputation of the arm
was necessary, and the Southern herb
sank - under the etTect- of it, supported to
the last by his einiple and noble character
and strong religious faith.

A PARLIAMENTARY TRIIII TE.
At the annual dinner of the Royal Geo

of May, the Right Hon. Spencer Wa]pole,
M. P., when returning thanks for the
toast of the"Etouseof Commons,",aaid :
Need he add that, crossing the Atlantic,
they had also fe concern themselves with
North America? And in association with
, this could he forget that lamentable news
had today reached this Country to the ef

of the English race—Stenewall Jackson—
was now no more 1 (Cheers.)
I From the London Tekwanb, May

whites would, have followed !!to the pit."
That he never lived to exchange a division

PITTSBURaII OIL TRADE
Taugamiy, June llth, 1863.
The market continues Erm, with a steady de
mand. There 'is a large speculative feeling in the
market and plenty of buyers, many from the
Bas . .erty cities. The ram+, however, do not meet
their views,-hence the pales were restricted.
Our latest dates from the. East represent the
market dull, th e cur:en t rates being too low ;to
admit of Oxpor's from this city. Matters cannot
long remain in this way; ' We shall no doubt soon
be able to report a change one way or the other.
Any figures we give must be taken as the nomin
al rates, priceSheing very uncertain just at pres

Our latest aitvices from Oil City represent the
market as littler; although no Aetna' advance had
been established.
