Another sale is that of Mr. Jacob
Forsyth, to Byron Painter, of 100 feet

Ohio street, between Forsyth and Logan's
country seats, Allegheny City, for $9,000
cash. This is considered a very low pur

part of the city.
Both capitalists at home and foreign
capitalists are inventing freely in real
estate in and around Pittsburgh, and a
large amount is daily changing hands,
amounting to slooiooo weekly. Yet still
the demand for houses is far in excess of
the supply. In no city will investments in
dwellings pay better than in Pittsburgh.
The increase to our inhabitants will be
great this year, if all who wish can get
houses built.

The Transfer of the City Rail

Gen. G. W. 'Cass, President of th
Pittsburgh,Fort Wayne and Chicago Rais e
way Co., publishes the following letter,
drawn out by a statement in the Chroni
cle, furnished by a city official, purporting
to give the position of the company and
the city with regard to the transfer cf the
stock held by the latter corporation in
the former :
PITTSBURGH. Fr. WA YN I: AND CIIWAGO R .11.0
deneral Office, Pittsburgh, April 13,
EDITOR CRltoNlct,R : The "City Official
(X) who furnished you with a / 'llistory of
the facts" relative to the complications
surrounding what is called the City Rail
road Stock does not give the facts correct
ly or fully so far as the action and inisition
.of this Company is involved in the matter.
As the Court will likely decide the whole
question in a few weeks, I do not deem it
now necessary to say anything further on
-the subject as to who is in error.
If those who are so clear as to the rights
of the city or ,the Trustees to the stock,
and who are so anxious for the interests
of the city, will come forward and give the
necessary security to hold the Company
harmless, they can have the certificates
issued to the parties with whom the Comp
troller has effected a compromise
- This is a plain business question and
should be treated in a business way.

Narrow Escape,
On Tuesday last Benjamin Lewis, Jr.,
aged fifteen years, son of Mr. Benjamin
Lewis, got his coat caught in therolls at B.
it. Johnston's rolling mill in Hollidaysburg,
whilst idling around them. He was drawn
over the rolls and back so far as to pass
his arm between them. when the rolls
were promptly ungeared and his body
saved from passing through. It is truly a
miracle how he escaped being crushed to
death. His collar bone and shoulder
blade were broken, and he was severely
scorched.
