The Seven Slaters.
We were present last evening at a full
dress rehearsal of this piece which is to
be brought out by Mr. J. E . McDonough
to-night. From what we saw we have no
hesitation in
.predicting for the " Seven
Sisters " the greatest success of the sea
son. The scenery prepared at great pains
and cost' expressly fctr, the piece, and
brought here at a heavy expense, is en
tirely novel and unique and exceedji
ie
magnificence anything we have ever liken.
The last scene alone is worth the price of
admission. The piece is well cast and a
large number of auxilaries are employed
to give fall effect to the piece. Mr. Mc-
Danongh appears himself am Mother Plutus,
the maternal relative of the Seven Sisters.
Miss Lotfy Hough takes the principal
female part, one of the sisters. She is, of
course, perfect in it, having played it
three hundred nights. - She is sprightly
apd: impulsive, sings very well and will
'plow till. The arrangements are all
perfect and we can see nothing to prevent
the -piece from going off very smoothly.
As a fail house is a matter of course; those
who wish good seats must go early.

power—sweeping away obstacles and
kindling in popular heart, fires of new
courage and hope.
The government should arm the colored
men of the free States as well as the slaves
of the South. and thereby give effect to the
proclamation of freedom; it should deal
with the rebels as having-so rights under
-the Oehititution or by theft - ma of war but
the right k die ; it shouldinake the war

displays all the engineering of hell in its
work of national murder, and threatens to
make o , co l ountry the grave of liberty on
earth. liberties would be saved from

life would be sent down through all the
coming generaticiti s of man.
Mr. May said the bill was a bold, sweep
ing and overwhelming measure, and he
denounced it, and the people of B&W- I I
more, whom he represents, cast their con
tempt and defiance on those who opposed
thew. lie spoke among other things of
aggravated abuses to citizen, not only
property unlawfully seized, but their
homes violated by unlicensed minions of
tho Seeretary of War. When the minions
and pro consuls from Ohio and Illinois
shall have been driven from the State,
then the people will resume their consti•
tutional rights.
Mr. Leary said : Those people of Salti•
more who, at the present time, entertained
aoy doubts of his colleagues political peel-,

where he stands. When he and his col
league were elected, 'such was his con
victionief the loyalty of his colleague
that he stated to his neighbors that they
need have nt. apprehension as to his posi
tion as a patriot and friend of the Union.
He since, however, had his doubts, and his
colleague's position is now well understood
If he (Leary) hesitated before he .should
now vote to indemnify the - President for
suspending the writ of habeas corpus.—
(Applause.) The large majority of Mary-
landers were arranged in solid Column

would prove it. If a thousand habeas
corpus laws stood in the way he mould re

Mr. Thomas, of Md., said if the issue
be made in Maryland bet Ween the disso

one, moment to adopt the, latter. , He
should vote for'the pending bill.
Mr. Stevens moved the previous ques
tion which was seconded. The House at
