Our force is reported to be two thousand and two pieces of artillery. Springfield contains a very large amount of army stores, arms, ammunition, fifteen four horee teams. Thirty men belonging to a telegraphic: corps are supposed to have been captured a few miles south of Springfield. Jackson - for saying that he must execute the constitu tion as he understood it. n motion of Mr. Sumner the bill for the O relief of the Norwegian bark, Admiral I'. Lordenbeim, was taken up and passed. On - motion of Mr. Davis of Ky., a bill providing for the raising 3f volunteers for the defence of the State of Kentucky was taken np. The question being upon the substitute proposea by the military cornmittee,which provides forthe raising of twenty thousand men, and giving the President the power to send them out of the State, if at any time necessary. Mr. Trumbull, of 111., opposed this ob jectionable species of legislation of rais ing twenty thousand men, not in Ken tucky alone, but in any State for the de— fence of public property.
