An adjourned meeting of the Allegheny City Democratic Club will meet at the warehouse of Thomas Farley, Esq., No. 164 Federal street, on Friday evening next, the 21st inst., at 7 o'clock, for the purpose of perfecting their organization. Punctual attendance is requested. By order of .TAMES C. CUMMINS, Chairman. Nov. lgth, 1862. • Supreme Court WEDNESDAY, Nov. 19th, 1862. .Court met at 9 a. m. Present Chief Justice Lowrie and Justices Woodward Strong and Read ; Justice Thompson ab sent trom Carley vs, E . viins. Jefferson. Argued by A rthurs for plaintiff in error, and by W. P. Jenks contra. Hoover vs. Arbuthnot. Venango. Ar gued by Ileydrick for plaintiff in error, and A. H. Miller contra. Toby Township vs. Madison Township. Clarion. Butler. Argued by Bredin for plaintiff in error and Purviance contra. Atlantic and Great 'Western Hallway. The Philadelphia North American thus discourses on Railroad matters in Western Pennsylvania : Akron, Ohio, is oue of the most impor tant railway centres of that State, and when the Atlantic and Great Western line shall have reached that point, it will be in direct communication with the whole rail way system of the West, for which it will be indebted to Pennsylvania. This road connects with the New York and Erie, and is in reality but an extension of it. The capital to build it was furnished by the British bondholders of the Erie road, in order to render that line independent of the Lake route, which is domina ted by the New York Central Railroad. This road will shun the two leading West ern cities of Pennsylvania—Pittsburgh and Erie—and is inimical to the metropo• lis of the State, Philadelphia, yet it will perhaps benefit Meadville and a few other villages in Western Penn'a, by making them way stations on a great through route be tween New York city and the West, and it will give an increased value to all the land on the line of the road. Philadel phia will also be put thereby iu more Pseedy communication with, both by the ittsburgh and Erie road and the Phila i! delphria and Erie, both of which cross the Atlantic and Great Western, the one near the Ohio border, and the other near that of New York State. The Pittsburgh and Erie will be purely a Pennsylvania road, and of great use to Er;e, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia, as well us to the country traversed by it. • - Sinking of the Steamer Den mark. A Pittsburgh boat, the Denmark, sunk last week on her way from St. Paul to St. Louis. When she reached the head of Atlas Island, a point well known, below Keokuk, she ran upon a snag, which tore her hull badly, and caused her to sink in ; a few minutes in the middle of the i.i n eight feet of water. The Warsaw, !. bound down; arrived at the scene soon I after, and on her Capt. J. Robinson and pother officers of the Denmark took pas ;sage to St. Louis. The boat, valued at w...;12,01)0, is not insured, and will probably tprove a total loss. There, was not a, great of freight injured. In Season. • We refer to the announcement of H. J. Lynch, in another column. A bold attempt was made, about mid night on Monday, to enter the residence of Mr. Thomas Murray, on Fulton street, near Franklin. The burglar attempted to effect an entrance by climbing to the roof of a porch in the rear of the house, and lifting one of the second story windows. He was about entering when Mrs. Murray, aroused by the noise, gave an alarm which cdnsed the instant flight of the rascal. Mr. Murray is a steamboat pilot, and is now absent on the river. OPIOCE'OP 'MR SATURDAY MORNING POST.) PTITSBURGH. Nov. 211th. 1862. - Remarks.—The weather since our last has been very ohangeable. and from present appear onus a rise in our rivers seems to be close at hand; the rains that commenced on Sunday night have continued. The weather at present is warm. Our Western cities bordering on the Ohio river are largely interested at this time in a rise of wa ter, as they are growing short of coal and have to submit to high rates. We counted at the landing yesterday, eleven tow-boats with their cargoes on board all ready to depart as soon as the water would permit. In connec it n with their barges they can tow out between seven and eight hun dred thousand bushels. This does not include the Broad Horns, a la rge number of which will depart as soon as the water will permit. Business around the city con trines active. It partakes, however. of a l oca l chara e w. As regards most of the lead ing articles, prices aro still going up. • Iron and Nails—The advance -re have pre• viously noticed has been maintained.
