The Anderson Cavalry, now at Carlisle,
twebie hundred strong, have been ordered
to Kentucky and will probably pass thro'
this city for the West in a few days.—
They are a splendid body of men, formed
from the fine neelens of the old Anderson
Troop. Lieut. Spencer has been corn
missiOhed as Lieutenant Colonel, the
Coloneley being reserved for Capt Pal
trier, should he regain his liberty. There
are a iininber of Pittsburghers and West
ern Pennsylvanians in this body, whose'
friendwill look anxiously for its arrival
here.:;' -
Fireman Killed.
Johri . Berry, of Harrisburg, a flagman
on the Pennsylvania Railroad, was killed'
on Friday night. He was stationed on the
rear of a train, and the sudden stoppage
of the locomotive threw him to the ground
with such force as to break his neck. The
deceased leaves a wife, having been mar
ried only a few months ago.

peared in the paper, some forty of the
Anderson cavalry proceeded to the office,

Verdict of Manslaughter.
The jury in the case of the Common
wealth vs. William Lowrie came into courJ
at half-past three o'clock yesterday after
noon, after being out more than seventy
seven hours, with .a verdict of man
slaughter and a unanimous recommenda
tion of the prisoner pa the mercy of the
court. The prisoner was remanded for
sentence.
The Nuisance Case.
The case of the Commonwealth vs.
Smithley & Co., indicted for nuisance in
maintaining a coal railway in West Pitts
burgh was not conclUded yesterday. It
will probably reach a termination this
morning.
Dedication.
The new M. E. church, at Franklin, Al
legheny circuit, Allegheny district, Pitts
burgh Conference, will be dedicated to the
worship of Almighty. God on November
23d, 1853. Preaching in the morning at
ten o'clock, by Hey. p. P. Mitchell, and
in the evening at half past six o'clock, by
Hon. James L. Graham. Preachers and
people in adjoining charges are cordially
invited to attend on the occasion.. •
Pocket Picked.
Robert Stevens, froin Illinois, was re
lieved of his pocket book, containing ssm.;,
while waiting at the depot on Monday eve
ning to go to Philadelphia. lie is now
making search for the !thief, who took all
the money he had. lenVin4him unable to
finish his journey.
Commences To-Day,
The Obey murder case, postponed ow
ing to the prolongation of the nuisance
case elsewhere noticed, will be taken up
in the Criminal Court to-day.
New Telegraph Line
The American telegraph company are
preparing to buid a line from New York
to Pittsburgh, via Easton, Reading and
Harrisburg. The section between Har
risburgh and Pittsbhrgh is already finish
ed, and Superintendent Mingle will com
mence the line as soon as the wire van be
furnished. This line is to be used entire
ly for through business, and will have in•
struments attached only at Harrisburg,
Easton and Reading.
Cyprlans Airested.
On Tuesday, Emma black, mistress of
a bagnio on Third street, was arrested
upon a true bill found by the Grand Jury
against her. She was found in the cellar,
concealed in a barrel. They also seized
Rebecca Tees,Lizzie Howell, Caroline
McQuiston an Mary Pugh, girls belong
ing to the house. The whole party were
committed to jail to await their trial.
Leg Crusfted.
James McCready, a stone -cutter, of Law
renceville, slipped while setting off one of
the Citizens' Passenger Railway cars, in
that borough; on Monday evening, and the
car passed over him, crushing his leg and
breaking the bone so that it may be neces
sary to amputate the limb.
Another Counterfeit.
We learn that a counterfeit three-dollar
note on the Mechanics' and Traders'
Bank of Portsmouth, N. 11., is now being
circulated. Vignette—large 3, female
head on each side in an oval ; 3 on each
upper corner s on lower right. Vulcan
seated at a forge ; on loWer left, Washing
ton. An exact imitation.
Alleged Highway. Robbery.
Wm. Carter has been finally committed
to fail by the Mayor, to .answer a charge
of highway robbery, preferred by John
Brooks.

Francis A. Shoemaker was yesterday
admitted to practice in the Supreme Court,
on motion of John Fenian, Esq.

enemy left three of their dead on the field.

Gap, which the rebels are endeavoring to
hold.
Our troops now hold all the gaps up to
Ashby's, with every prospect of having

There was some force of the enemy to
day in front of Snicker's Gap, on the left
bank of the Shenandoah, to dispute our
passage at that point.
The rumors of the invasion of Mary
land, by the way of Downville, is not be
lieved at these headquarters by the last
reports from the rear.
The army is ready and prepared to fight
a general battle at any time and, place,
where the enemy may see proper to meet
them. It is in a better condition than it
has ever been, with the exception of a
want of more cavalry.

patches to Detoomats claim Seyinimr's
majority in New York City to be 34003;
also the election of eleven Democratic
Congressmen, including the two Woods,
and all the members from the second to
the tenth district, also the 26th and 30th
districts.
Retacns from-Jersey are scattering and
indecisive.
CHICAGO, Nov. 4.-11 p. m.—The elec
tion passed off quietly. The votes polled
was large. The reported majorites from
all the wards of the city give Arnold the
Republican candidate for Congress 345.
His majority in the district is probably
1300 or 1500.
The returns from the State are very
meagre, giving an indication as to the re
sult.
Springfield city gives Stewart, Demo
cratic candidate for Congress, 413 ma
jority. Allen, Democratic candidate a.
large 200.
Kamkasiree county gives Morton, Re
publican candidate for Congress, 1,000 ma
jority.
Galena gives 300 Democratic majority.
The State ticket returns from seventy
towns in different parts of the State, give
Ingersal, Republican candidate fcr Con

Wiscoxstx, Nov. 4.—Seven towns in
Walworth county gives Potter, Pepubli
can, 1,238 majority; Kenosha county,.
three towns gives Potter 300. His major-.
ity in the whole county will be about 500.
ST. LOUIS, Nov. 4.—The election here
to•day passed off very quietly. Returns of
the city are yet incomplete, and nothing
definite can be ascertained. The vote in
the Sixth, Seventh, Eighth and Tenth
wards stands : Blair, 1930 ; Knox, Radi-,
cal Republican, 1964 ; Bogg, Democrat,
932.
Boni - ix, Nov. 4.-9 p. m.—The vote in
this city foots up as follows: Governor
Andrews. Republican, 0,010. General
Denens, People's, 7,07 G.
The result in forty-five towns, not inclu
ding Boston, gives Andrews, for Governor,
17,034; Gen. Denens, 11,231.
The re-election of Gov. Andrews by a
large majority is sure.
A. H. Rice, Republican 2 is defeated for
Congress in the Third District, by J. S.
Sleeper, People's candidate, who has 62
plurality, and in the Fourth District,
Hooper, Republican, is re-elected to Con
gress over Judge Abbott, the People's
candidate. .
TaErrox, N. J., Nov 4.-12 m.—The
indications are that Mercer county will
give Parker, the Democratic candidate for
Governor 150 majority, and Middleton.
Democrat for Congress 75 majority.
In Hunterdon county a heavy Demo
cratic vote has been polled. Parker,
Democrat, for Governor, will have from
1,2100 to 1,500 majority, and Steele, Dem
ocrat, for Congress 1,300 majority. The
wfiole Democratic ticket will be elected.
` Burlington county will-give a small ma
jority tbr Ward, Republican 'candidate for
Governor, probably 400 votes,
and less for
the Republican candidate for Congress.
Warren county, as far as hear from,
show a Democratic gain. The majority
for Parker, (Dem. ) for Governor, is about
1,200.
Somerset county also shows a Demo
cratic gain. William G. Steele, (Dem.)
for Congress has been re-elected in the
3d District by 3,000 majority.
Auserost, November 4.—Mulica town
ship gives Ward, (Rep.) for Governor, 98
majority. John F. Starr, (Rep.) for Con
gress, receives about the same majority.
Honot:Es, N. J., Nov. 4.—The follow
ing are the complete returns of Hoboken :
For Governor—Parker, D., 748: Ward,
R., 298. For Congress—Perry, D., 731 :

The township of Weihawken gives three
majority for Parker and Perry.
Benson, D., is elected to the Assembly

Twelve wards of this city give Horatio
Seymour, the Democratic candidate for
Governor 14,000 majority.
Binghampton, Broome county—Seven
towns give Wadsworth, the Republican
candidate for Governor, over 1,000 ma

DETROIT, November 4, 11 p. m.—Scat
tering returns indicate the election of the
whole Republican State Ticket, by a ma
jority probably not less than 5,000.
NEw Ybak, November 4, —The Anglica
has arrived from Port Royal.
The steamer Scotia is repairing at Hit=
ton Head, and is to sail in a few days for
New York.
General lachell died at Beaufort, Oc
tober 30th, of. yellow fever, which is pre
vailing there.
FAIRFAX STATION', Nov, 4.—lnformation
by telegraph from the front states that our
cavalry, under Gen. Stahl, last evening
drove the enemy out of Thoroughfare Gap,
and the division of Gen. Schurz advanced
and took possession of it. No enemy re
mained in sight of there last evening at
dusk. The other divisions of Gen. Sigel,
under Stahl and Van Steinvesh, are upon
the rhilroad, in supporting distance of
Gen. Schurz.
Oar cavalry also now hold Buckliuid's
Mills, where recently the rebels had a
pretty strong guard. Gen. Bayard's force
now holds Aldie and the country between
that point and the front of Gen. Sigel's
advance.
The rebel force at Catlett's Station and
Warrenton Junction had not been changed
up to yesterday morning., Union people
just come in report a rebel force of' 3,000
infantry and 2,000 cavalry and artillery at
the town of Warrenton.
FORTRESS MosaoE, Nov. 4.—The Rich
mond Dispatch of the lst says that four
prisoners were received at the Libby
prison in that city the previcull day.
They gave their names as Jas. G. Basten,
Wm. Williams, Joseph A. Pote and Jacob
Rafle. They were captured at the mouth
of the Rappahannock river. Basten was
the master of the ship Alleghenian, Wil
liams the Grst mate, and Pote the pilot.
BUFFALO, November 4.Among the
disasters caused by the recent storm, the
following are reported: The schooner
Chief Justice Marshall is ashore between
Barcelona and Dunkirk. The crew were
all lost. The schooner Post Boy went
ashore above Dunkirk, but the crew were
saved.
A dispatch to the State Line says the
schooner Rugby, of Buffalo, is ashore
there and is a total wreck. The crew were
all lost. Three of the bodies have been
washed ashore.
The schooner E. C. Williams was also
wrecked. Apart of the crew were saved.
The Captain of the propeller Water
Witch reports seeing the upper works of
a propeller off Gravelly Bay. He thought
it belonged to the propeller California,
but is uncertain.

Yeatman is elected to Congress to fill the
vacancy caused by the resignation of Jas.
S. Jackson.
It is reported that Bragg's army is at
Murfreesboro, Tenn., and that fifteen
hundred rebel cavalry are at Somerset,
Kentucky.
Four hundred sick and wounded federal
soldiers, frOm the interior of the State, ar
rived this evening, also some forty rebel
prisoners. _ '
General Boyle has ordered all the rebel
prisoners at Harrodsburg, and other hos
pitals, sufficiently well to be removed, to
come here for shipment to Vicksburg.
