The Late Election
The New York Journal of Commerce
says the elections in the three great States
of Pennsylvania, Ohio and 'milers are a
death blow tc radical policy, slave in,
surrection, negro equality, negro arming,
and negro rations, and all the blackisms
and plans of radical men. It
The President has been deceived by rad
ical men, He was assured that if he
would embrace their ideas the whole North
would be with him, and that he had but
to issue an Emancipation Proclamation to
cause a rush to arms of hundreds of thous
ands of men, who only waited such a .dec
laration of policy to take the field. He
believed them, and sent out the desired
proclamation, and waited, and is still
waiting, and will continue to wait, for the
promised nine hundred thousand. Says
the Journal. Pennsylvania says in plain
wordS—"We have had only three. weeks
to think this thing over . —we do not ,like
to express a hasty judgement, but since
we must we don't like •it." Ohio says—
Mr. President, pour old tried ways ' are
the best—we prefer them."
Sowing Flower Seeds
About the first of May, and after, for
two weeks, flowering seeds should be sown;
and a dollar spent in procuring the best
varieties unless, they shonld be on
hand from the previous season, will af
ford twenty dollars' worth of pleasure.—
nese varieties should include, among
others, the Asters, Phlox, Drummondii,
Sweet Aylssum, Blue Grove Mignonette,
Portulaccas, New Golden Chrysamth.eum,
(summer flowering . ), Sweet Peas. Double
China Pink, Dwarf Convulus, Burridgii,
Flowering Larkspur, Lupias, Sulpiglosso,
Erysimtpune, Peroffskyannum, Scabiosa,
Major. Ntunias Galibardia, Pecta, Pansy,
to. The ground for dower seeds should
he light and rich, and made as fine as pos
aible. The seeds should be sown very
thinly on the surface, and carefully and
lightly raked in. Of course no one must
attempt to cultivate flowers without keep
ing the ground perfectly free of weeds,
often stirred, and, if needed, watered.
