General Hooker
We are gratified at being able to state,
says the National Inteli ,, encer, as every
man iu the country wir oe able to learn,
that the painful wound whieh prostrated
the brave Gen. Hooker, in the battle of
Sharpsburg, has proved so much less seri
ous than was at first apprehended that he
was able to be moved to the Frederick
cars, and arrived in Washington on Sun
day evening last.
LION. EDWARD STANLEY, Military (}over
nor of North Carolina, says the New York
Express, is in this city, from West Point,
en routs to Washington, where, it is said,
he intends to have sofb. , better understand
ing with the Presi , ' at, preliminary to his
resumption of the government of North
Carolina. Mr. Stanley gave up great emol
ument and the most brilliant prospects in
California, to serve his former friends and
neighbors in North Carolina, and he is not
disposed. we hear, to resume office unless
he can really serve the country as a whole,
and his old State as a part of that whole.
Emigration to Hayti,
James Redpath, the general agent of
the Haytien government under the emi
gration movement from the United States
to that island, ha? :signed his position,
and the government of Hayti has ordered
the suspension of the Pine and Palm news
piper, the semi-official organ of the au
thorities of Hayti, e.tahlished in this city
to organice emd carry forward that project.
The cause of rrsigoation was a difference
of opiaion in regard to the plan to be pur
sued.—Borton Traveler.
