I,ONo, Secretary. Tw•o Out of Five. Mrs. Ann T. Woods, of Allegheny City, who had five sons-in the-Union army, has received a letter from Capt. Johnston, of the Bth Penn'a. Reserve, under whom two of her buys, lrilliam and James, fought and died at Fair Oaks on the 27th of June. He says: " Their deaths are deeply re gretted by all their companions. They were greatly esteemed for their many gen tlemanly qualities. Your noble boys be haved with great gallantry on the field, and their memories shall live in the bosom of their fellow soldiers." The other three sons of Mrs. Woods are still in the service, and it is hoped that they may escape. War Meeting at East Liberty. On Monday evening a large war meet ing was held in East Liberty, presided over by Dr.-Jonas R. McClintock, with Geo. W. Humbert as Secretsry. The chairman explained the object of the meet ing to be to aid in recruiting for the war, and urging the enlistment of-men in the Stanton Light Horse Cavalry. Messrs. Thomas M. Marshall, Esq., Capt. Robert Pollock, Capt. Robert Porter and Jonas R. McClintock eloquently addressed those present, urging a united effort to put down this rebellion, and speaking in glowing terms of Capt. Robert Pollock and First Lieut. Joseph Beitler, now recruiting a company for the Stanton Cavalry ; calling upon those present to enroll t roll of thhemselves. After several additions to the e company the meeting adjourned. A The Corcoran Regiment. At a meeting of the committee appoint. ed by the Corcoran meeting on Saturday evening ILA, a committee was appointed to wait on Gov. Curtin to obtain his au thority for recruiting the proposed regi ment, consisting of Hon. J. K. Moorhead, Thos. M. Marshall, D. O'Neill, P. C. Shannon, J.S. Cosgrave and John L. Boyd. The committee left for Harrisburg last evening. Barn Struck by Lightning. The heavy thunder storm which passed over this vicinity on Wednesday night, about eight o'clock, struck the barn of Wm. McCrea, Wilkins township, on the Northern pike. All the grain raised on the place this year, threshed out and ready for market ,was entirely consume' with the building. Mr. Peter Dabble, who had worked the farm "on the shares," lost half the grain. Furniture and Carpets at Auc tion. We would call the attention of house keepers to the sale of Furniture,Carpets, Mirrors, &c., to-morrow (Thursay) morn ing, at 10 o'clock, at 67 Marbury st. The safe will be without reserve, as the owner is removing from the city. AUDITOR GENERAL, The Buektail Brigade, The Harrisburg Patriot and Union of Monday has the following: "The first ref; invent of the Bucktail Brigade was organ. ized on Friday evening, and the event was celebrated by a supper at the Buehler House, attended by all the field and line officers. Roy Stone, of Warren county, was elected Colonel; Captain Dwight, of Warren, was elected Lieutenant Colonel; and Captain Spear, of Huntingdon, was elected Major. The regiment left on Sat urday evening. Judging from the men composing the first regiment, we have no hesitation in expressing our belief that this brigade will be composed of the very best material that evererossed the Poto mac. The laurels won by the originals has inspired a feeling which has brought out some of the very best men in the State, who are anxious to adopt the badge which which has inspired so much terror and awe among the rebels—the Bucktails. The second regiment will be filled, organized and sent forward in a few days. The State has just reason to feel proud of her buckusils, and we feel assured that the honors they will win upon the field will redound to the everlasting credit of the glorious Keystone State." Important Decision. P We published recently the instructions given by the Commissioners to the As sessors in valuing coal lands. Under these, some land in Mifflin township was assessed, and the owners appealed from the assessment in the usual way. The Commissioners, before whom the appeal came, decided against the appellants, whereupon the latter took the matter to the Court of Common Pleas, and a de• cision in the case was rendered yesterday. After a careful review of all the facts, the Court ordered that the assessment be stricken from the duplicate of Mifflin town ship, and the Commissioners be instructed to correct said duplicate accordingly. The decision is an important one, in which many are largely interested. The Wounded of the Zonate Cadets. Among the names of the wounded in the late battle at Bull Run we find those of several of the U. S. Zouave Cadets of this city viz: Lieut. Milton B. Miller, leg, severely; Corporals John W. Hemphill, Jas. Estop and John A Robertson; Pri vates Wm. Murray, Win. O'Neil, John C. Porter and Florence Berton. Lieutenant Robert D. Andrews, formerly of Allegheny city, who commanded a Warren county company in the same regiment, was also wounded. A new comedy, entitled "Hands off the Queen," was performed last night. We believe it was its first representation on any stage, and should be its last. It is certainly he weakest thing we ever saw. The only thing that made it endurable was the fine acting of the company and re• spectable manner in which it wasput on the stage. "Governor Foster" perpetra ted the joke of the "Queen of Leon," with which this piece is identical. To night we have the " School for Scandal," with a superior cast. Removing Obstructions from Oil Creek. The principal oil men have made ar rangements to remove the obstructions on Oil Creek and the work is to be com menced at once and prosecuted vigorously. It is estimated that not less' than 8,000 barrels of oil have been lost upon one rock in the channel of the river, just be low the Island. This has been removed by the contractor already. The Rope Walker. - Quite a large crowd assembled on our corner yesterday afternoon expecting to see a second ascension by Mr. Donaldson., but all were disappointed, as he had no such design. He sill, however, repeat the wonderful performance of Monday, this afternoon, between four and five o'clock. He will also appear at the Thea tre in the evening and make an ascension blindfolded. Admitted to Practice. Yesterday morning, on motion of R. B. Carnahan, Esq., Geo. R. Cochrane and It. A. Cameron, Esqs., were admitted to practice at the bars of the several Courts of Allegheny county. Wounded. General Curtiss was chosen tempor ary chairman by acclamation, and pro ceeded to address the meeting upon the services and important work for which they had been called together ; briefly re viewing its great necessity, and the invalu able influence which it will exercise on the interests of the country. Robert. Finney, of Pennsylvania, and Jno. R. Robinson, of California, were elected temporary Secretaries. The roll being then called. seventy-six answered to their names. Gen. Cass, of Pennsylvania, moved to proceed to a permanent organization. Some dis cussion ensued, when the motion was lost by a vote of thirty-one to thirty-nine. Without taking any further action, the Convention adjourned until five this after noon. CINCINNATI, Sept. 2.—The excitement has been high all afternoon, and the citi zens are enrolling themselves rapidly in the.different wards. The Cincinnati Inquirer, alluding to he danger of rebel invasion, says : "The ppple_of Cincinnati must pro- pare to defend themselves. There no mistake about it this time. We are very seriously menaced. Our troops, after the defeat at Richmond, were un able to defend the line of the Kentucky river, but have fallen back and evacuated Lexington, which city was occupied last eight by the rebel General Kmar SMITH, whose army is variously estimated from 12,- 000 to 80,000 men, formidable in efficient artillery and thoroughly disciplined troops. There is no question that the rebels ex hibit the audacity which distinguishes a high order of generalship. They move without transportation, and have now en tered a country in which they will have no difficulty in supporting themselves as they march. We may be sure they will make no delays, as they know their op. portnnity is passing away rapidly. Four days' forced marching would bring them to the banks of the Ohio. it is pretty certain that they will strike in this direc tion. We should act if no doubt existed that they were advancing directly upon this city. Let ns have, not a panic, Mr united, intelligent, comprehensive, prom action.
