We direct special attention to the adver
tisement of the Executive Committee in
another column. It contains information
of importance to all engaged in recruiting.
Now is the time for every man to cto hi
duty to his country: let one and all come
up and swell ihe Volunteer Bounty Fund.
Allegheny County's Quota Full.
Yesterday was the loth, the time at
which all recruits for nine months, under
the first call for :100,000 men, were to be
mustered in, and it is with gratification we
announce that on Saturday tvening. the
10th, the whole of Allegheny county's
quota, fifteen companies, full to the maxi
mum standard, had been mustered into
the United States service. The names of
the companies are as follows:
Clark Infantry, co. A, Capt. d. B.
Clark.
Clark Infantry, co. 13, Capt.
Clark Itilitntry, co. C, Capt. Simon
Drum.
Butchers Light Infantry, co. A, Capt
H. Danver.
Butcher's Light infantry. co. B. Capt,
IL Maxwell.
Tarantum Infantry, co. A, Cow. Boyd.
•, ••
Cass Infantry, Capt. F. Capt. F. Gast.
Howe Engineers, Capt. D. E. Adams,
Walker Infantry, Capt. 11. K. Tyler.
• , Keystone " T. M. Bayne.
Union- " " . Isaac Wright.
Sumner " " E.. 1. Seibert.
.M'Clintock Guards, Capt. Larimer.
Turtle Creek Infantry, Capt. Baldridge.
Here then we have the spectacle of a regi•
ment and a half of men raised in this
county in two weeks (two-thirds of the
number in five days) and mustered in. AII
hail! the noble sons of Allegheny. We
have also, in the same time, sent an artil
lery company of sixty-five men. and sonic
loft recruits fur the old regiments. The
fifteen companies named have been given
in charge by the Executive Committee,
who paid them their bounty, to Capt. 1..
W. Smith, commandant of Camp Howe,
into which they will be put, this week,
there to remain, under drill and instruc
tion, until they are armed and chipped.
But we have done still better. We have
now some five or six companies, Ibr three
years or the war. full, mud at. least thirty
companies more under way. with from
fifty to twenty men each. Beerniting is
still going on actively, and if we haul the
assurance that the Government will accept
volunteers under the second call fiir :;00,-
000 men, the luota of Allegheny (manly,
nearly three thousand More, could be
ready in two weeks from this day. 4)111'
people do not want to Ire drafted--they
prefer going voluntarily. Negotiations
are in progress by which it is expected
the: a sufficient sum of money will be pro
mired to pay-to every volunteer the same
bounty that has been paid to those now
organized into companies. What resident
of Allegheny county does net feel a thrill
of pride as - he looks upon her glorious
"rebellion record?"

1n its review last week tbeOil City Reg
ister says that Eastern quotations have
reached 1.7 a: for crude and Pittsburgh
quotationsi;c. Freight had advanced; the
river WAS too low for a pond freshet ;
teamsters were asking 15 to 50 cents per
barrel between Oil City and the Tarr farm;
freight to Pittsburgh 75 cents. The Reg
ister says :
"During last week we heard of sales at
42 to 47 cts at the wells. Parties are now
holding their oil at $l, and $1,25 at the
wells. We have heard of one sale of
2,600 bhls delivered at the month of the
Creek, at 90 cents per barrel. We are in
formed of one sale of 500 barrels more on
the Ham M'Clintock farm, at $1 cash.
This is the best sale that has been for some
time past. .4tlyers are plenty in the mar
ket, but seem indisposed to purchase at
present figures. Holders seem confident
of getting the price they ask. We stated
some time since that the producing wells
on Oil Creek had decreased fully ao per
cent. if not more. Since that time gen
tlemen well posted in the matter have in
formed us that our estimate was far below
the mark. It is estimated that since No
vember last the decrease of supply has
been fully two-thirds. We have to report
the stoppage of two more wells, the
Dinsmore Welland the Crane Well, bot'
onthe Tarr Farm.
The demand in the New l'ork.market is
iarKe, and the stock is light. The late
favorable European advises received by
the Australia, have visibly affected the
market, and crude rules firm at 15 cents;
Relined at :27 to :10. The Woodford Well,
on the Tarr Farm, which was struck a few
weeks since, has stopped flowing. The
Grapit& Hasson well,on the Egbert Farm,
which stopped by reason of being improp
erly tubed last week, is now flowing :300
obis per day. The market closes in an
unsettled condition. First rate barrels,

44reat Resort.
There is no mLiering place in the coun
try that has obtained notoriety in so short
a time as Cresson. A few year., ago it was
nothing but a mosquito-infested place, but
to-day it is crowded with the elite of all
sections, and has become famous as a sum
mer resort. Hundreds of families, driven
by the intense summer heat from the
crowded cities, are there enjoying the
sweet, quiet, of country life and breathing
the pure mountain air. Cresson is a most
delightfhl place, surrounded, as it is, by
enchanting groves, fishing streams, tine
roads and an abundance of pure cold
wider. There are a great many Pitts
burghers th?•re the present season, who
are loud in their praises of the manner in
which everything is conducted. Pennsyl
vania has now two renowned watering
places—Bedford and Cresson—which are
equal it' not superior to any in the United
States.

Green Fruit.
As green apples, pears and other un
wholesome fruits are beginning to make
their appearance in our market, we would
recommend all who have regard for their
health, and do not wish to be taken sick
with the cholera morbus, and other com
plaints which prevail at this season of the
year, to abstain front eating this kind of
fruit in large quantities. ltipe and fresh
fruits are wholesome articles of diet, but
nothing can be more injurious than.an un
guarded indulgence of the appetite mani
fested by some people for unripe fruit.—
By being careful as to the kind and quan
tity of fruit used, the payment of large
fees for medical attendance will he
avoided.

Where to Recreate.
Many of our citizens have been in the
habit of spending the "heated term" at
the delightful resort of Mr. 11. W. Cimt

air, good water and line baths contribute
to the comfort and health of the guests in
a large degree. This year has been no ex

the population of Pennsylvania at 2.,!i00,

culation shows the quota of this State,
under the second ;all, (presuming the lirst
300,000 to have been tilled up by volun
teering) to be ncarlq Arty thousand men.
Again, the population of Allegheny county
is, in round numbers, 218,000, and a sim
ple calculation proves that our share of
the "to,ooo men required from the state is
Iwo thousand and j;mr ha mired
live »ten.
Ily the census tables of 18:M, ivo find
that the males of the military age are a lit
tle less than twenty per cent., or about one
out of every five of the aggregate popula
tion. Bence the males of Pennsylvania,
within the military age, are about (in'
hundred and eight?, thousand. But
froM these must he. dedneted all aliens.
all persons of African descent, all
persons exempt, all who are physically
incapable of duly, When this is
done we find, by reference to the militia
returns of the New England States, where
the enrol Inients no' more carefully [wide
than in this latitute, that the aetuad pro
portion of able-bodied male s fit, for mili
tary duty is about toce4re ow/ a huff pr,'
ow'. of the aggregate population, or about
one fencible man to every eight men, wo
men and children. But in this locality,
•we have perhaps a larger proportion
than other districts of women and chil
dren, aliens and negroes, and this
would perhaps reduce the ratio
of those liable to and fit for mili
tary duty to one in ten or 17,800 from
the entire population of the county. But
this is based upon the census of 180,
since which time Allegheny county has
sent many troops-to the battle field. The
fairest estimate we can make of these is
0,500 belonging to this county—and taking
these from the able bodied militia, leaves
11,300. Divide this by the number called
for from the county and we find that the
draft would take more than one in five of
our able bodied men. • This calculation
will, we think, be found nearly correct.
Captain Harper and Lieut. Case are

an office only on Saturday at Connolly's
Hall, Grant street, yet they, within a few
hours of that day, have sworn in a con
siderable number of men. They are ener
getic and active, and determined, for the
honor of Allegheny county, that no draft
shall be made. The 15th inst., is the last,
day. Now or never. An additional
bounty is immediately paid to recruits
upon taking the oath.
