A gentleman who, after trying every
kind of avocation—such as going whaling.
hunting .hells in the South Sea, driving a
Washington market cart, keeping a re
freshment saloon in the country, farming,
etc L—has at last reached the elevated posi•
tion of a city policeman, tells as a verita
ble fact the following adventure, which oc
curred to him while he wits trying to farm
it in Sullivan county in this State. And
we know it to be trim, 'Lavine. other vouch
