HOOFL•AND'S GERMAN BITTERS.
From J. 9eteron Brown. D. D., Editor r e f Ike En
cyclopedia of Religious Knondedae.
Although not disposed to favor or recommend
Patent Medicines in general, through distrust of
their ingredients and effects: I yet know of no
sufficient reason why a man may not testify to the
benefit he believes himself to have received from
any simple preparation in the hope that he may
thus'contribute to the benefit of others.
I do this the more readily in regard to Hcof
land's German Bitters, prepared by Dr. C. M.
Jackson, of this city, because I was prejudiced
against them for many years, under the impres
sion that they were chiefly an alcoholic mixture,
jam indebted to my-friend Robert Shoemaker,
Esq., for the removal of this prejudice by proper
tests. and for enecuragement to try them, when
suffering from great and long continued debility.
The use of three bottles of these Bitters, at the
beginning of the present year. was followed by
evident relief, and restoration to a degree of
jodily and mental vigor which I bad not -felt for
idxmonths before, and had almost depaired of re
dining. I therefore thank God and my friend for
tirecting me to the use of them.

proof in various instances, and particularly
in my °wit family, of the usefulness of Dr. Boot
land's German Bitters, I depart from my usual
course. to express my full conviction that fur
general debility of the system, and especially Liv

In some cases it may fail, butusually I doubt not
it will be very beneficial to those who suffer from
the above causes. Tours very reopectfullv,

glorious government restored.
Nominate men who are prudent, hOnest
and patriotic; men who prefer the restora
tion of the Union to the success of schemes
for public plunder; and while the brave
men in our armies are crushing rebellion
with their bullets, let us endeavor to pros
trate its co-worker, abolition, by our bal
lots.
