The farmers and planters in this region of country will do well to he on their guard against an evil that- has already pressed heavily on some of their number. A ease of peculiar hardship has been brought to our notice whereby a worthy gentleman of Prince George'g county has already lost six of his colored farm • ser vants by death, and all within n single week. Several of the remaining part of his force are also dangeronsly ill, and from, the same source, namely, the putting on of clothing brought down or exchanged with soldiers who have had camp lever — Disease thus originating proves highly in fections and intensely virulent, and in many cases seems to baffle medical skill. The sickness and death in the family re ferred to. grew out of nothing more than the_ wearing ot a soldier's coat hy one of their number for a few hours only.— jYat- Intelligeneer, Death of an Officer. A letter from Fortress Monroe says : No one who lived at Old Point in the good old times of last summer but will "*1 a deep pang of regret when he learns of the deathof Captain Hiram Stevens, As sistant Adjutant General, attached to Gen. Wool's staff. He died on the Bth ult., at hi# residence, St. Albans, Vt., where he had gone to recuperate after a long and severe illness from the small-pox, which undermined his constitution and made him an easy prey to the consumption, which finally carried him off. il esion ki>. — Col. Charles Doubleday, of the second Ohio cavalry, formerly in com mand of Fort Scott, Kansas, has resigned bis commission. Colonel Doubleday is a cousin of Brigadier General Doubleday. who was in Fort Sumter during the attack on it by the rebels. lie was Walker's Commissary General in his Nicaragua fiii bustering expedition.
