and morals.
The following is a tried and approved
recipe for preparing :
Raspberry rinega Mit two quart„ of
ripe, fresh . raspherries into a stone or glaz
ed vessel (whose glazing will not he affect
ed by acids) and pour on them a quart of
good vinegar. Let it stand twenty-four
hours, and then strain out the juice and
vinegar. To each pint of this, add a
pound of pulverized white sugar, and put
it into a porcelain kettle to boil smartly
tor about half an hour, removing all the
scum as it rises. When cold, bottle and
seal. Half a gill of this, mixed in a tum
bler full of cold water, makes a delicious
drink.
Strawberriei;dewberries or blackberries
can be used in the same manner—only
using just as much vinegar as will cover
the fruit. Add no alcohol, whether as
wine, brandy or whisky—it is unnecessary,
it only impairs the fine flavor of the fruit,
and in many cases may he injurious to the
patient.
Larger quantities of fruit. may be used
only observing the proportions given above
Now, with our promised abundance o
fruits, will not every family prepare titian
tities for our hospitals, while putting ui
their family stores.

The New York Press.
The influence and position attained by
the three leading New York papers, the
Herald ? Tribune and Times, is surprising.
Almost every person in the community b;
a partisan for one or the other. We all
have one of the three to swear by and one
at least to bear down upon inordinately.
We never see in any of the three, how
ever, such sensible advice as this: For
gentlemen's or boys clothing, of the latest
styles, made from fresh goods of the very
latest selections in the market, made by ex
perienced hands and trimmed in the best
style, go to Carnaghan's Clothing and
Merchant Tailoring Establishment, Fed
eral street, below the Diamond, Allegheny
city. To see advice like that, like many
other good things, you must consult the
lecal press. The statement is a true one.
Call and be convinced.
THE members of the Committee of the
Board of Trade appointed to wait upon
and receive the delegation of the Councils
and citizens of Baltimore, will please pre
sent the notice of their appointment at the
office of the Pittsburgh, It. Wayne & Chi
cago Railway Company, No. 23, Fifth
