Patent Medicines in general, through dktrust of
theiringredients and effects; I yet 'know of no
sufficient reason why a man may not testify to the
benefit he believes himself to have received front
any simple preparation in the hope that he may
thus contribute to the benefit of others.
I do this the more readily in regard to Roof

against them for many years, under the impres

directing me to the use of them.

In the Cork Examiner we find the fol
lowing interedtini4 item from n Killarney
correspondent:
ithin the limits of the county of
lierry the rush to America is very much
on the increase. On Wednesday morning
the nine o'clock train from Killarney con
veyed away a larger number than I remem•
her leaving for a long time. The number
of emigrants, and the scene witnessed at
he station, brought to the recollection of
.cony the departures during the memora
ole famine years. The class of persons
now leaving this part of the country, seek
ing for a home in a new world, is compos
ed not entirely of farm servants, but of
farmers, tradesmen, laborers and house
servants, who cannot procure a decent
living in the land of their birth."

Aloes for Squash Bugs.
Probably the most effectual, while it is
the most easy remedy for the little pests
that eat up our vines, is water made in
tensely bitter with aloes—say two ounces
to a gallon. This may be put upon the
vines with a fine rose-Jet watering pot: or,
better still, with a rose-nozzle syringe. ft
has been applied successfully in France
and England, and to some extent in this
country. It is said that it will also
repel rose bugs, and the green slugs that
destroy roses and grapes. If it will
keep the stupid bugs off the squash and
melon vines, it will be an invaluable
remedy, and not an expensive one. So
says an exchange.
"Tali government," says the report of
the Congressional Investigating Commit
tee, "has been the victim of more than
one conspiracy, and remarkable combina
tions have been formed to rob the treasu
ry. The profits from sales of arms to the
government have been enormous, and
realized, too, in many instances, even by
our own citizens, through a system of
brokerage as unprincipled and dishonest,
as unfriendly to the success and welfare of
the nation, as the plotting of actual treas
on." Nevertheless, Mr. Lincoln, in his
extraordinary message, assumes the re
sponsibility, and whitewashes the chief
villains. He continues to keep them in
office. Can he carry more villanies than
all other administrations combined ever '
suffered ?
