Yesterday morning we dropped in st No. 118 Wood street, first door above Fifth, and examined several fine pianos from the• manufactory of J. J. 11 ise Bros., Baltimore, which "arc now being introduceditere. The pianos are well and ' substantially made in every part, beauti• fully finished, with rounded corners, and would be an ornament to the most superb ly furnished parlor. The intention of the manufacturers is to furnish a good instru ment at a fair price, and from the speci mens we have seen we think they have succeeded admirably. The tone of these instruments is very tine, equal to those of the most celebrated makers, while the simple but ingenuous appliance for ri.gu lating the tone, patented by Mr. Wise some years since, supplies a desideratum. The price is about one-fourth lower than any other good pianos now offered is the city. and we have no hesitancy in recom mending the new candidate for favor in the musical world, which has been highly approved by professionals and anditeurs. We advise those proposing to purchase pianos to call and examine these before ft - inking their purchases. The Oratorio. .nusical oratorio at the Cathedral this evening is being looked forward to with Mill' ii:u•rest by many who have at tended those already given, and from the general desire manifested to be present we expect a large attendance. The enter tainment will be a most attractive one, em bracing twelve pieces. which cannot fail to he acceptable. Prof. Wamelink's rep• utation as a musical conductor, the names of performers and the popularity of the Frolntim) Society,- who have kindly volun teered for the occasion, are sufficient guar antee that the investment made in tickets will be a good tine. We refer to the pro gramme in another column, and urge all who love sacred music to be present. rick- etii can be had nt the music stores for twenty-five cents each. Death or Capt. McCleary. It is with muclr regret that we announce the death of Lieut. J: C. McCleary, at the Marine Hospital, yesterday morning, lie was a native of Sharon, _Mercer co., but resided in Illinois when the war broke out. In the battle of Shiloh he was Captain Commanding of a company in the Ninth Illinois regiment, in which he had enlisted and received a gunshot wound in the hip and groin. lie was brought here by our Sanitary Expedition and placed in the Marine Hospital, where lie improved rapid ly ibr a time, but recently grew worse and finally died from his wound. He was a good man and gallant soldier, whose loss will be deeply felt. Douglas Monument. The Chicago Douglas Monument Asso ciation have effected an arrangement with the publishers of the imperial size steel engraving, 21 by 17 inches, (the best ever published) of Judge Douglas, and sold by the latter at One dollar per copy. The As sociation will furnish to each subscriber in the sum of two dollars or more both the diploma of life membership and the above portrait; or dispose of copies of the portrait at the publishers' price of one dol lar—all profits arising from the sale by the Association accruing to the monument fund. Bakewell is Chairman, and Wm. McCree ry, of the firm of Hitchcock & McCreery, has been appointed in his place. AcknoWledgement. Pirrsiminu, June Oth, 1862.
