The Coureier du Ras-Rhein states that a number of letters have recently arrived in Strasburg, from, Vienna, which were posted in 18i10 and IF0;1, and each of t hem bears a printed notice, stating that it hati been stolen from the post office and only, recently recovered. It appears that an immense number of letters have been lost from the Vienna post office within the last two years, and all the complaints had been met with the answer that the clerks of the office were above all suspicion. An acci dent; however, lately led to the discovery of the thief, who was a letter-sorter, named Kabul), formerly attached to the lottery, and in his lodgings were found 18,000 en velopes and unopened letters. When he first began stealing the letters he used to burn them ally but his landlord having complained of the danger attending his burning such great quantities of paps r, he from that time tied the envelopes and let ters in bundles, and kept them in a cup board, where they were found. The Aus trian journals which have already spoken of this matter . estimate the number of letters found atiiis lodgings as infinitely greater. The Ost - Duelche-Post, of Vien na, says: "It results from the examina tion into the affair of the letter -sorter Kallab that the number of letters found, which he had not opened, amounts to the enormous figure of 62,320. Among them are many which came from abroad, and which he managed to lay hold of in their passage. The committee is occupied in' examining them in.order to ascertain what money they contained, and what amount Kallab has appropriated to himself. A very important trial, in which the inherit ance of three orphans was involved, is about, to undergo a revision, in conse quence of an original document, which could not be produced at the time. having now been found in Kallab's house. Many other difficultitis, and hitherto impenetra ble mysteries, will he cleared up by the discovery of this system of wholesale ab straction.-, $155,605 CO 2.462 .90 27,900 00 30,000 00 A Tale of the Sea. The following incidents in connection with the wreck of the _Mars, will he read with deep interest:—"On the day after the wreck I was standing on one of those terrific cliffs: at Linney, overlooking the late scene., when I deSeribed an object floating in the distance, and front its ap pearance, judged it to be a box or chest, painted red, but as it Caine nearer, f saw tt was a hit mairbody. Being tossed by the waves, it appeared and disappeared alter nately, until at length it was lost to sight among the breakers. I went down and found it to be the lifeless body of a young lady, thrown on a shelving rock, in almost a sitting posture, the head reclining on her hand, the countenance serene, and a placid smile on her lips—a quantity of sea -weed entangled in her hair, and a fearful gash on the left temple, from which the blood flowed in streams. This was caused by he head harlot , COMP into violent colli sion with the rock. The only articles of dress on the body were a red silk petticoat and elastic corset. The body was taken to Castlemartin for interment, a coffin having been provided. The clergyman was in the act Of commencing the funeral services when a messenger arrived and begged that all might be delayed for a few days, so that the body might be identified, for some family in Ireland were anxious to recover the body of a beloved daughter, who was a passenger in the aim fbrtunate ship : but the description did not answer, and the body was interred at Castlemartin on Monday. The vessel now lies within a tiw hundred yards of Brimstone Rocks, where she struck in about six fathoms at low water... 102,995 25 89,78 ti Ali 27.91!) TO THE PUBLIC.
