Oh I give me a home in the country wide.
And a mat by the Lerner's wood fireside.
Where the fire burns bright.
On a frosty night— •
Where the Jest, the song, and the laugh are free:
Oh! the farmer's home is the plaice for me.
Ohl give me a home in the country 'wide.
Where the earth comes out as a blushing bride—
With her buds and flowers.
In the bright spring hours.
for bridal song ringing from fresh leaved trees
And melody flouts on the perfumed breeze.

In gain:nor a seat in a shady nook.
And close by the side of a purling brook.
Where the violet grows,
o r the pale swamp ruse,
Fainting, sick, 'Death the sun's scorching beam,
Dips her pale petals in the cooling stream.

Oh! give me a home in the country wide.
In the golden days of a ftrmer's pride,
When his barns are filled
From the fields he's tilled,
And he feels that his yearly task is done,
And, smiling et winter, he beckons him on
Cleanly Cattle.
If their is one thing iu which the Ar
govian takes particular pride, and in which
he particularly excels, it is in the care of ;
his cattle. They are elephants insize, and
their glossy hides betoken some peculiar
art on the part of their masters. Not a
particle of dust orstraw is allowed to cling I
to them, and they are combed and washed
as only horses are elsewhere: Not with a l l
curry-comb, but with old cards, which, be. 1 1
lug finer and softer, are more agreeable to
the animal, and improve the fineness of .
'the hair. This receives an additional lus
tre by beimg rubbed with old flannel.—
They actually shine: and the •gentle crea- j
tures haVe eta evideitt consciousness of:
their beauty, for they are careful not to
soil their ashy-gray and chestnut robes by
lying in the mull wheu allowed to take a'
walk. Animals can acquire, if they have
nut by uature. a fine sensibility, and when
they have once experienced the pleasant
sensation of cleanliness. learn to take care
of theinselt-es. Not only do they exercise
this care lbr the person or the animal. but
are at the pains or rentoving•every feather
and other unpaintabie substance from their
food : and the water-troughs - Where they
drink are kept as ckao ;is if human beings
resorted to them. If anybody doubt the
efficacy of these means, let him come and
see nut only how large, hut how intelligent
these dumb creatures look: how they watch
every motion of those who talk to them,
