Distressing Accident.
A hi.! named Speer, twelve or thirteen
veers of age, rt-siding with his parents in
Manchester, was seriously, if not fatally
injured on Tuesday. at. Hall & Speer's
pl o w works. in the borough. A belt had
been removc4: for the purpose of tighten
ing it, and after it was replaced Speer was
caught by the belt and dragged around
with it for some ten or twelve revolutions,
the men losing all presence of mind and
making no effort to throw off the belt.—
Both arms were broken. his legs fractured
and his whole body terribly bruised and
lacerated. I ii:injuries are so serious that
r, corers i s he! icvea to be impossible, though
accounts the poor boy was still 'alive.
Escaped from Prison.
Andrew J. Morrow, sentenced to three
3 - ears in the Penitentiary for burglary and
awaiting removal, in Butler jail, escap
ed from his cell on Thursday night. The
officers are in hot pursuit and the fellow
will probably be captured ere long.
Lecture.
The Rev. J. llickey, one of the Profes
sors of St. Michael's Seminary, will deliv
er a lecture for the benefit of the poor in
St. Patrick's Church on Sunday evening,

committee to procure boats and B. Pres
ton, Wm. M. Es-s! and Win. McCreery

Previous to the adjournment of the

The Mayor was waited upon by the Cein
inittee and, in accordance with their re
quest, called a meeting of . citizens at the
Board of Trade rooms in the evening.
At half past seven quite a large number
of citizens asSempled at the place designa
ted to take whatever measures were nec
essary in the premises.

the chair and Messrs. J. It. Geo.
H. Thurston and. Wm. Anderson were ap
pointed Secretaries.

and that the Board of Trade had raised
$1,500 for the purpose named.

graphed to both, offering two steamboat:,
with surgeons and nurses fir the relief of
the sick and wounded. The replies wore

Maj. Gen. Halleck accepts your offer of
two steamboats with surgeons and nurses,
to proceed to Pittsburg. Tenn.

Mr. Brunot, from the -Couimittee on
Steamboats, presented the report of the
committee, stating that two boats, the 1.
W. Hallman and Marengo, had been en
gaged (subject to the approval of the meet
ing) to make the trip to Pittsburg, Ten a.,
and return for 8115 per day each; : . *rhich
covers all expenses except fuel, damage to
mattresses, and the board of physicians
and nurses. the latter to be paid for at the
rate of 75 cents per day each in addition
to the sum named. It was expected that
the boats could start by noon to-day.
Mr. Jus. Park moved the acceptance of
the committee's report, which was agreed
to.
Col. E. Simpson was opposed to taking
any further steps, as the dispatch of the
Secretary of .%\ , ar, who was eertainly fully
informed. was conclusive.
Mr. Park thought Pittsburgh had a right
to take care of a part of the wounded.—
He wanted to see them hero and: aid in
nursing them.
Mr. Jas. M. Cooper opposed the adop
tion of the report, as intormation from the
highest authority was•to the effect that the
enterprise was not necessary, The time
might come ere Iciagilailtia . oal aid would
be needed and we should reserve our means
until that time. • , . -

received from the Secretary of War, to
whom Gen. Halleck's dispatch had been

solved that the corps of surgeons and
nurses he regularly organized, with one
chief surgeon and assistants, arid: rtnis head
nurse with assisatants, for each boat,
with power to organize their. respehtive
corps. This was amended. by !di. Park,
making the chiefs so chosen responsible
for the proper discharge of their duties
and the supplies entrusted to them :

the Melodeon, which could beatforded at a similar

have succeeded in the manufacture uf a new style
Harmonium, which can hardly fail to meet a very
general demand.
The School-llarmonium possesses full volume as
well as a good quality of tone, is small in size, very
compact, easily moved about, and of exceedingly
durable construction. It contains two sets of reeds,
and an effective swell, and is much louder than
the most pewerful "'Double Reed" Melodeon. The
ease is strongly built of oak Cr black walnut, oil
finished.
Although more especially designed for shool use,
the new instrument is equally well adapted to the
musical requirements of vestries, chapels, lecture
rooms, village churches and public halls.
