The instruments generally used to oprate
on the aye were tried and found to be too
small for the purpose, and a pair of den
tist's pincers were procured, with which
the blade of a knife was extracted fr(.rn
the wound. It was the blade of an ordi
nary jack , ,knife, full three inches
length, and about three•quarters of an
inch in breadth, tapering to a pint. This
had been in the man's heed forty-two days,
and was, when extracted, completely coat.

Bennet, lately a resident of Salem, thLi
county. Mr. Bennett was a member of
Major Stokes' Battalion, 15th tl. S.
fantry; having enlisted with him lag fall,

severe attack of typhoid fever. As soon
he was able to travel, he was furnished with

the regiment at Nashville, Tenn., when
the accident happened. He had took pas.

t3eidle's brewery, in Duquesne borough,
on the canal bank, took fire from the malt
kiln and was destroyed, with some $l,OOO
worth cif barley, malt, &c., and one hun.

between $3,000 and $4,000, partly insured
in the Lyooming Mutual. A vineyard in
the rear was much injured by burning of
