JAM'S KtfARR. S tairll4:F4:ll MONDAY MORNING, B. 3. - - ---®.® EViesien of the Advance. ", .tew, beat Bernet, despatched on lite' • Thursday to bring up the Wounded by the exrdesioli or the towboat Advance, p. rived here on Saturday night, bringing the:wounded and-the empty barges. The expicti- n occurred about eleven o clock on Tuesday night, at Matamoras 165 miles below ibis city. The Hornet ' left here at tweieeclock on Thursday afternoon end, 0404--Alevtisy quick trip, reached the scene of the disaster before ten o'clock on Triune day night. On the arrival of the Hornet everyth•ng phseibld ibeses done to make the wounded as comfortable as possible: Their wounds had been dressed by a physician residing near the scene of the accident, who kindly accompanied them on their return, to minister to their necessities, and did all in his power to relieve them. We learn that the first engineer, known as "Dutch Mike," was on watch ' at the ,time of the explosion, and was about 'o change off with the second, Wm. He had gone out to oil the shaft, first -throttling the engine, and had scarcely 1 reached the wheel when the explosion toe* place. He escaped without the slight . eat injury, the force of the explosion being forward. One of the boilers was turned nearly inside out; a large piece was thrown three hundred yards into an apple crch,rd and another piece into the river; the ot,:it-r boiler was uninjured. King, the second engineer, was pretty severely burned about the face and hands. The Captain was not on board, one of the pilots, named Stew. art, being noting Captain; he escaped with a severe burn on the right hand. The other hi. Slinefelter, was eep, his head and one arm lying over theedge 01 the bed. His lace and arm were terribly scalded and it is believed that he inhaled steam. He died of his injuries on Friday morning, some hours after the arrival of the Hornet, after being removed to that beht. The mate, whose name we are tine. /de to give, was also asleep in his berth.— Thetexplosion carried him up through the hurricane roof and on coming down he lit with his feet on the sound boiler and, being stunned, remained there, perhaps a athlete, until his feet were literally roast. ed; his hands were also badly burned in getting down. . The looks, a colored man and hie assist. watt,s colored boy, were sleeping in the sense. berth. The boy escaped, bat the Astin.bould not extricate himself, and was burled up with the boat. One 'of the firemen is also missing, and fa supposed lcitavabsen blown overboard and drowned. every one on the boat, except the first thigineßir, was more or lees injured. In addition to those named, two dockhands, -named Irwin, and a third named Craig, were scalded, one of the former badly. Two - other" Were slightly Bearded, but managed to start home the morning after -the accident. The fragrrents of the wreck were gath, ered up, the barges secured, and the wounded, with the body of ITlinefelter, plOgiff on board the Hornet, which started for this port again on Friday, reaching here on Saturday night, as stated. Ides sengers were sent ahead to inform the friend's of the wounded, along the river, _that they Might be ready to take charge of them on landirg. The second engineer and mate were left at R >cheater, whero they reshes. Craig was left at Freedom, in .charge of his brother, who will take him to his father's house, some distance Vora the river. His injuries are not very . seeious, but to hes made his case worse by fretting and uneaseess. The two Ir. NikTfai — iiere left at their home on the river opposite Ecanomy. Oee of the fl eaten was brought to the city, and left at his broiler's on the wharf, to be taken t th•. Hospital to-day. The colored boy. (cook) Wko was seriously scalded, was taken to his home in one of time upper wards. Mr. Jilinefelter's remains were taken to his residence at .Eset Liberty. It Is singular that nearly, if not all Were scalded al:out the face, blackening and disfigur.ng perhaps for life. Only one is believed to be in a dangerous condition, the fireman. The first engineer, we understand, will ieteilay give hernitalf up to the Inspectors, to await an inveieigation. He states that he was carrying 120 the of steam and had plenty of water, but the explosion is al. leged to have resulted from a scarcity of water and high pressure of steam The belle.' of the Advance bad been known to bear 180 lbs. steam, but had been in use eight' or nine years, and co /Id not, conse quently, have been very safe. ; g Affray An Lawrenceville. `Au affray cceurred in the borough of Lierrenceville on Saturday evening, dur., fug - which the ex -Coroner, C.
