JA ,ARR, EDITOR .011b1P ItIYP It I-ET•O ruasDAY!„ d itft l / 9 ,#kt428 OITY 7A4II.'I'T•3EZCS, & Best's Glass Works. • • We stated last week that Messrs. Phil_ lips & Best, whole glans factory in the Second Ward. wrs recently destroyed by fire, had erected temporary wooden build. ings, undet ,the ordinance granting them that privilege, and were again in fall blast. We visited the works yesterday and found the senior r paitiler, .?dx..Phillips, superin tending the removal of three pots cracked by their cooling at the time of the fire and .the introduction of new ones, a difficult ' and by no means pleasant task, the heat is most intense. We found the same number of hands at work as before the fire and were informed that they had been blowing all last week. The firm only stop ped filling orders for one day, that on which their lao.ory was burned. Although a large quantity of stock was destroyed with the_building two detached warehouses escaped and they were enabled to fill nearly all orders as they came. They were in operation ten days after the lire and are now ready to furnish anything in their line. The blow-house is as complete as before and the other parts of the building will be finished within the week. Nearly two hundred hands are thus kept in em. ployment, who, it was expected, would feel severely the rigors of this winter. A , Inge force is now employed in making lamps and lamp chimneys, of which large numbers are being turned ont daily. We are glad to note the energy of this firm, whose enterprise so daily overcomes all difficulties. They will henceforth be found at the cld place, ready and willing to oblige their old otuttemers and any number of new ones. Mr. - Phillips desires, through us, to return the thanks of the firm to J. W. Arrott, agent of the London North ern Assurance Company and J. G. The enemy has evacuated Springfield, which is now held by our troops.
