We have heard some queer notions mentioned
as reasons for this masterly inactivity.—Among
others equally absurd, it is alleged that a passive
qui.tuide on our p.trt throughout the winter

enemy; that it will discourage and demoralise
them, and that before the new season their condi
tion will be co rotten as will offer an easy victory.
God help the authors of such a theory. A more
stu pend one folly never originated in an old maid's

party which can afford to wait. They are now pose.e.
ed of men whose services are employed at a fair
valuation. They enlist for pay, and so long as they
