Mr. Dawes, of Mass , from the Commit
tee on Elections, reported a resolution
that Charles Henry Foster is not entitled
to a sea in Congiess, either from First or
Second Districi of North Carolina.
Mr. Dawes said that the committee had
pursued the investigation so far as to be
entirely satisfied that the claim was found.

this fact was Mr. Foster himself, that ho
voluntarily abandoned the claim. The re , .

Mr. Walton, of Vermont, from the
Committee on Printing report d a resolu
tion, which was adopted, to print 5,000

evidence and 10,000 copies without the
evidence.
The House resumed the consideration of
the htil to secure Homesteads for actual
settlers to heads of families or-these who
have attained twenty-one years.of age and
are citizens of the United States or have
filed their intention to become such. The
provisions are extended to all who" have'
performed service in suppressing the re,
hellion. In lieu of bounty land the three
months' volunteers r their legal heirs are
to receive 80 ; dollars in addition to the
right of homestead, and all who hlvis
served six months, 100 dollars.

troops and express the beOef that they
have been surprised antrffUt off. Osceola
is about 26 miles South of Clinton, and if
our Informants' statements be correct a
very rapid advance of Generals Pope's
and Steele's divisions has doubtless been
made upon Price's head quarters. Advice&

General Prentrtsv threw a few shells into
that town the rebels have been vary severe
towards the Union men, searching and
plundering their houses, and threatening
to burn them.
